Mercedes-Benz B-Class in Singapore, cost by cost

What the Mercedes-Benz B-Class costs in Singapore: list price as listed, COE category, road tax and dated car insurance examples.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The B-Class is the taller, family-minded hatchback in the Mercedes-Benz line-up. If you are pricing one in Singapore, the big items are the list price and COE up front, then road tax and insurance every year. This guide goes through each.

Insurance figures here are examples for one stated driver, as read on 20 October 2026. Your premium depends on your own details. Use these to compare, not as a quote.

Versions

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has one version on sale, a hatchback made in Germany:

  • B-Class B180 Progressive: petrol, 1,332cc, 128bhp

Our quote form has three versions, all with the same 1,332cc engine:

  • B180 Progressive
  • B200 AMG Line
  • B200 Progressive

The insurance figures are for the B180 Progressive, the version most of our insurers quote.

The price on the list

As listed on 2026-10-10, the B180 Progressive was S$258,888, including COE as listed that day.

New-car prices shift with each COE round. A quote from a dealer today can be higher or lower. When you compare offers, check what each includes, such as servicing or accessories.

COE

The 1,332cc B180 Progressive needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. With more power, it needs a Category B COE.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These results change every round. The COE page has the newest.

Road tax

LTA's formula sets the road tax for a 1,332cc engine at S$585.72 a year, before any age surcharge. All three versions on the form share that engine, so they share that figure.

Once the car passes 10 years, a surcharge is added:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

For other engine sizes, see the road tax page.

What insurance costs

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class price page prices one example:

  • Car: B180 Progressive, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

11 insurers price that example. The lowest premium is S$751.82 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,142.39. That is S$390.57 more, or 52% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

The lowest plan here has a S$2,500 excess. That is worth noting before you take the lowest number at face value.

Excess across the page

The excess is the part of a claim you pay. Most plans set it at S$600. Some are at S$500 or S$800, one has none, and others ask S$2,500 or S$3,000. A lower premium with a higher excess costs more if you claim, so compare the two together.

Five insurers on our panel have no online price for this model. Some prices that are shown are marked as estimates.

What changes the price

Here is the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,020.55, S$268.73 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,020.55, S$268.73 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,020.55, S$268.73 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$786.66, S$34.84 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$727.00, S$24.82 less
  • A car 8 years old: S$722.19, S$29.63 less

The NCD is the largest factor again. Without it, the lowest price is 36% higher. Unlike many cars, a brand-new B-Class comes out cheaper to insure than a 3-year-old one at the lowest price. The older driver pays a little more. These are lowest prices only; other plans move in their own ways.

Similar cars for the same driver

The price page puts six cars beside it:

Their average lowest price is S$742.05. The B-Class is 1% above that, so close to level. Three of the six cost less to insure. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page links the other models.

When comparing quotes

A few checks help you compare like with like:

  • Workshop: the prices above assume an authorised workshop. Plans that allow any workshop may be priced differently.
  • Add-ons: none are included here. Cover such as NCD protection costs extra.
  • Named drivers: adding a younger driver can move the price a lot, as the age-27 line shows.
  • Dates: each price on the page carries the date it was read. Prices read on different days can sit side by side, so check the date too.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and travel times.
  • Servicing: follow the maker's schedule, and ask what the warranty and service package cover.
  • Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later.

Yearly figures in short

For the B-Class B180 Progressive:

  • Road tax: S$585.72 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, example driver: from S$751.82 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,020.55
  • Insurance, new car: from S$727.00

One-off, for reference: S$258,888 as listed on 2026-10-10, COE included. COE closed at S$130,001 (Category A) and S$130,100 (Category B) in the October 2026 1st round.
