Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon prices, road tax and insurance in Singapore

A Singapore cost guide to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon: list prices, COE rules, road tax and dated car insurance examples.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The C-Class Saloon is the Mercedes-Benz many Singapore buyers step up to from a mass-market sedan. The step up shows in the list price. This guide checks whether it also shows in the yearly bills. It takes the costs in order: the price, the COE, road tax and car insurance.

Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show how prices compare, not what you will pay.

Versions listed and on the form

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 files the C-Class Saloon under luxury cars, made in South Africa. It lists three versions:

  • Mild Hybrid C180 AMG Line: petrol-electric, 1,496cc, 168bhp
  • Mild Hybrid C180 Avantgarde: petrol-electric, 1,496cc, 168bhp
  • Plug-in Hybrid C63 AMG S E Performance: petrol-electric, 1,991cc, 671bhp

Our quote form has seven versions, from the C180 and C200 (both 1,496cc) to the C300e (1,999cc), the C43 AMG 4MATIC and the C63 (both 1,991cc). The insurance figures are for the C180 AMG Line, the version most of our insurers quote.

List prices

As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included that day:

  • C180 AMG Line: S$280,888
  • C180 Avantgarde: S$280,888
  • C63 AMG S E Performance: S$724,888

The two C180s list at the same price. The C63 is a different purchase altogether. Prices move with each COE round, so a dealer's figure today can differ.

COE

For the C180 AMG Line, with its 1,496cc engine, the category turns on power. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is higher, it needs a Category B COE.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. Each round sets new figures. The COE page shows them.

Road tax

LTA's formula sets road tax for the 1,496cc engine at S$681.90 a year, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge applies after the 10th year:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The 1,991cc and 1,999cc versions have bigger engines, so their road tax is higher. The road tax page covers them.

Insurance for a typical driver

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon price page prices this example:

  • Car: C180 AMG Line, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

12 insurers price that example. The lowest premium is S$749.93 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,334.70. That is S$584.77 more, or 78% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

Note that the lowest plan carries a S$2,500 excess. The next few plans up carry S$600. That trade-off is worth weighing before you pick on price.

Excesses on this page

Most plans set the excess at S$600. Others are at S$500, S$750 or S$800. One has none. Several ask S$2,500 or S$3,000. You pay this sum first on every claim, so a high one can cancel out a saving on the premium.

Four insurers on our panel have no online price for this model. Some prices that do appear are marked as estimates.

What happens when one detail changes

The price page shows the lowest price with a single change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,201.79, S$451.86 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,134.20, S$384.27 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,201.79, S$451.86 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$811.71, S$61.78 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$728.31, S$21.62 less
  • A car 8 years old: S$713.61, S$36.32 less

The NCD has the biggest effect. With none, the lowest price is 60% higher. Here the 20% NCD line sits a little below the no-NCD line, as you would expect. A brand-new C180 costs slightly less to insure than a 3-year-old one. The older driver pays a little more. These are lowest prices only; other plans may move differently.

Against six similar cars

For the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$724.93. The C-Class Saloon is 3% above it, and four of the six cost less to insure. So for this driver, the gap with mass-market cars is small on insurance, even though the list prices differ a great deal. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page has the other models.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus office and city parking. CBD rates can add up if you drive in daily.
  • Petrol: your distance and the pump price. The mild-hybrid system works alongside the petrol engine.
  • ERP: the gantries you pass and when.
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule. Ask what the warranty and any service package include, and for how long.
  • Depreciation: the value lost over the COE years, which turns on the price paid and the price you sell for.

Summary of the figures

For the C-Class Saloon C180 AMG Line:

  • Road tax: S$681.90 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, example driver: from S$749.93 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,201.79
  • Insurance, 8-year-old car: from S$713.61

The one-off costs for reference: S$280,888 as listed on 2026-10-10, COE included. COE closed at S$130,001 (Category A) and S$130,100 (Category B) in the October 2026 1st round.
