The S-Class has been sold here in many forms over the years. Our quote form lists thirteen versions, from a 2,799cc S 280L to a 3,997cc S 400 CDI. This guide works through the yearly costs for the S 300L (A), the version most insurers quote. One result may surprise you: for the driver priced here, it costs less to insure than every similar car on its price page.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide to how prices compare. They are not a quote.
The versions
The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type.
Our quote form's versions include:
- S 280L 2.8: 2,799cc
- S 300L (A) and S 300L 3.0: 2,997cc
- S320L and S400L: 2,996cc
- S450L AMG Line: 2,999cc
- S 320 CDI, S 350 BlueTEC and S 350 CDI: 2,987cc
- S 350: 3,498cc
- S 350L Panaromic (A) and S 400 Hybrid: 3,500cc
- S 400 CDI: 3,997cc
The figures below are for the S 300L (A). Each engine size pays its own road tax.
COE
The S 300L's 2,997cc engine is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
On a used car, the COE is already paid. The years left on it shape the price. The COE page has later results.
Road tax
LTA's formula sets road tax for the 2,997cc engine at S$2,381.58 a year, before any age surcharge.
Past 10 years, a surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The 3,498cc to 3,997cc versions pay more. Look them up on the road tax page.
Insurance for one example
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class price page prices this case:
- Car: S 300L (A), registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
13 insurers price it, and only three on our panel do not. The lowest premium is S$886.61 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,590.76. That is S$704.15 more, or 79% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
That is a wide choice of insurers for a car of this kind. The spread is still S$704.15 a year, and it repeats each time you renew. Some prices shown are estimates.
Excess
The lowest plan carries a S$600 excess, like most plans here. Others carry S$500, S$750 or S$800. One has none, and several ask S$2,500 or S$3,000. Two plans near each other in price can differ widely on this.
Plan levels
Many insurers list two or three plans for this car. The fuller plans cost more and may add extras. Read each plan's details before you compare across insurers.
What moves the price
The lowest price with one detail changed:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,288.03, S$401.42 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,288.03, S$401.42 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,288.03, S$401.42 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$886.61, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$913.66, S$27.05 more
- A car 8 years old: S$811.71, S$74.90 less
Without the NCD, the lowest price is 45% higher. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The older driver pays the same as the 40-year-old. A newer car costs a little more, an older one a little less. These are lowest prices only; other plans may move by different sums.
