The Mercedes-Benz ML is no longer on the new-car list, so you will only find it on the used market. Several engines were sold here, from 2,597cc to 3,994cc. This guide looks at the ML 300 CDI, the version most insurers quote. It covers road tax, car insurance and the COE, then the costs that depend on you.
All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote. Use them to compare.
The ML versions on our form
The new-car list has no ML on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here.
Our quote form lists five versions:
- ML 270 Cdi: 2,597cc
- ML 300 CDI: 2,987cc
- ML 350: 3,498cc
- ML 350 (A): 3,500cc
- ML 400 CDi: 3,994cc
The figures below are for the ML 300 CDI. The others have different engines, so their road tax and premiums differ.
COE
The ML 300 CDI's 2,987cc engine is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
An ML on sale now may be on a renewed COE. Ask when the current one ends, since that tells you how long the car can stay on the road. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 2,987cc engine S$2,369.86 a year, before any age surcharge.
An ML is likely old enough for the surcharge:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
At the top step, the road tax is half as much again as the base. That is a large yearly sum on an engine this size. Check the registration date, and see the road tax page for the other engines.
Insurance for the example driver
The Mercedes-Benz ML price page prices this example:
- Car: ML 300 CDI, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
Every price page uses a 3-year-old car. The ML you are looking at is likely to be older, so your own quote may differ. The 8-year-old line below gives a sense of how age moves the price.
8 insurers price the example. The lowest premium is S$1,071.15 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,430.32. That is S$1,359.17 more, or 127% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Eight insurers on our panel do not price it online. One lists the ML only with a different engine or fuel, so its price would be for another car.
Excess
The lowest plan carries a S$2,500 excess. Most others carry S$600. Two set S$750, and one has no excess. Weigh the excess with the premium, since you pay it first on any claim. The second-lowest plan costs about a hundred dollars more but carries S$600, so it may suit you better if you expect to claim.
How the price moves
The lowest price with one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$2,013.47, S$942.32 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,622.84, S$551.69 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,741.53, S$670.38 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,229.53, S$158.38 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$1,064.65, S$6.50 less
- A car 8 years old: S$966.74, S$104.41 less
Without the NCD, the lowest price is 88% higher. The younger driver and the older driver both pay more. The 8-year-old car costs less, which is good news for an older ML. These are lowest prices only; other plans may move by different sums.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age:
- Audi Q7: S$1,238.58
- Audi S4 Saloon: S$1,501.01
- Audi S5: S$1,238.58
- Audi S5 SPRTback: S$1,238.58
- Audi SQ5: S$1,210.01
- BMW 7 Series: S$1,030.55
Their average lowest price is S$1,242.89. The ML is 14% below that, and only the BMW 7 Series is cheaper to insure. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page has the other models.
Checks on an older ML
- COE end date: how long before the car must be renewed or deregistered.
- Engine: confirm which ML it is, since five engine sizes were sold.
- Road tax step: the surcharge may rise while you own it.
- Service records: ask what has been done, and get quotes for what is due.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at home and work, plus other stops.
- Fuel: your distance and the pump price.
- ERP: your routes and times of day.
- Repairs: an older car may need tyres, brakes, a battery and other parts.
- Depreciation: on an older car, mainly a matter of COE years left.
