The GLS 350 is the version most insurers quote here, and it is sold only on the used market now. It has a 2,987cc engine. Owning one in Singapore means a big road tax bill each year and an insurance premium that turns sharply on your NCD. This guide sets out both, plus the COE category.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare. They are not your quote.
The car priced
The new-car list has no GLS 350 on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type for it.
Our quote form prices the GLS 350 with a 2,987cc engine. All figures below are for that car.
COE
The 2,987cc engine is above 1,600cc, so the GLS 350 needs a Category B COE. That closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
On a used car, the COE is already paid. Check how many years are left, since they shape the price. The COE page has later results.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 2,987cc engine S$2,369.86 a year, before any age surcharge.
Past 10 years, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Each step adds a sizeable sum on a base this high. The road tax page shows the formula.
Seven insurers online
The Mercedes-Benz GLS price page prices this example:
- Car: GLS 350, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
Only 7 insurers price this car online, and nine on our panel do not. The lowest premium is S$1,074.09 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,430.32. That is S$1,356.23 more, or 126% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
So even with seven insurers, the top end is more than twice the bottom. It is worth asking insurers that do not quote online for a price too.
Each price on the page shows the date it was read. Some here were read more than a week ago. With a short list, one insurer changing its rates can change which plan comes out lowest.
Excess
The excesses here are about as simple as they get. Every plan but one sets S$600. The other has none. That means you can compare the premiums on this page directly.
Plan levels
Several insurers list a basic plan and fuller ones. The fuller plans cost a few hundred dollars more. Check what each adds, such as a courtesy car while yours is repaired or protection for your NCD. Then decide whether the extra cover is worth the extra premium to you.
The NCD and this car
The lowest price with one detail changed:
- No NCD (0%): S$2,099.73, S$1,025.64 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,680.81, S$606.72 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,670.32, S$596.23 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,173.76, S$99.67 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$1,106.39, S$32.30 more
- A car 8 years old: S$1,022.35, S$51.74 less
The NCD makes a very large difference here. With none, the lowest price is 95% higher, nearly double. A 20% NCD still adds S$606.72. The younger driver pays almost as much extra. Car age, by contrast, moves the price only a little. These are lowest prices only; other plans may move by other sums.
If you are new to driving, or returning without an NCD, price that in before you commit.

- Audi S5 SPRTback: S$1,238.58
- Audi SQ5: S$1,210.01
- BMW 7 Series: S$1,030.55
Their average lowest price is S$1,242.89. The GLS 350 is 14% below that. Only the BMW 7 Series is cheaper to insure. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page has the other models.
Before you buy one used
- Check the version: GLSs have come with several engines. The figures here are for the 2,987cc car.
- Check the dates: first registration sets the surcharge and the COE years left.
- Check your own NCD: it can nearly double the premium, as the list shows.
- Check the history: ask what servicing has been done and what is due.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at home and work. Check your own block's rates first.
- Fuel: your mileage and the pump price.
- ERP: your routes and timing.
- Servicing and parts: follow the maker's schedule. Get quotes before any big job.
- Depreciation: what you pay set against the COE years left and the resale price.
