A Mercedes-Benz GLE400 in Singapore, what each year costs

Road tax on a 2,996cc engine, Category B COE and dated car insurance from 11 insurers for the Mercedes-Benz GLE400 in Singapore.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The GLE400 is a Mercedes-Benz with a 2,996cc engine. In Singapore, a car with an engine of that size carries a heavy fixed cost each year in road tax. Its insurance, by contrast, can be found for less than most of its rivals for the driver priced here. This guide sets out both, plus the COE and the costs that depend on you.

The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare. They are not a quote.

The GLE400 priced

The new-car list has no GLE400 on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type.

Our quote form prices the GLE400 with its 2,996cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote, and all figures below are for it.

COE

The 2,996cc engine is above 1,600cc. The GLE400 needs a Category B COE, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

A used GLE400's COE is already paid. Its remaining years are built into the asking price. The COE page has later results.

Road tax: the large fixed bill

LTA's formula sets road tax for the 2,996cc engine at S$2,380.40 a year, before any age surcharge. That is far more than the lowest insurance premium below, so for this car road tax is the bigger yearly bill of the two.

The age surcharge adds more:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

A GLE400 near those ages will cost a lot more to tax each year. The road tax page has the formula.

Insurance for the stated driver

The Mercedes-Benz GLE400 price page prices this example:

  • Car: GLE400, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

11 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$1,046.37 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,945.84. That is S$1,899.47 more, or 182% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That is a very wide range, close to three times from the bottom to the top. Notice too that the lowest premium sits well below the next one. If you see only one or two quotes, you may miss it. Some prices shown are estimates.

Five insurers on our panel have no online price for this model.

Excess

The lowest plan has a S$600 excess, the most common level here. Others set S$500 or S$800. One has none. Several ask S$2,500 or S$3,000. The excess is your share of every claim, so a plan with a high one can be a false saving.

Basic and fuller plans

Many insurers list two or three plans for this car, a few hundred dollars apart. Read what each adds before you compare across insurers. A basic plan from one insurer and a top plan from another are not the same product, even if their prices look close.

How the price shifts

The lowest price with one detail changed:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,463.70, S$417.33 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,463.70, S$417.33 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,463.70, S$417.33 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,143.46, S$97.09 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$1,077.85, S$31.48 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$995.98, S$50.39 less

Without the NCD, the lowest price is 40% higher. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The older driver pays a little more, and the older car a little less. These are lowest prices only; other plans may move by other amounts.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$1,242.89. The GLE400 is 16% below that, and only the BMW 7 Series is cheaper to insure. So for this driver, insurance is a cost where the GLE400 compares well. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page has the other models.

Before you buy

  • Engine: GLEs have come with several engines. The figures here hold only for the 2,996cc car.
  • Age: the first registration date sets the road tax step and the COE years left.
  • Your quote: price it with your own NCD and age.
  • Records: ask for the service history and what is due next.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at home and work. Check your own block's rates first.
  • Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Servicing and parts: follow the maker's schedule, and get quotes before big jobs.
  • Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later.
