Mercedes-Benz GLE300d in Singapore, road tax and insurance explained

The Mercedes-Benz GLE300d in Singapore: Category B COE, road tax on its 1,950cc engine and dated car insurance prices against similar cars.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The GLE300d is a Mercedes-Benz with a 1,950cc engine. In Singapore, road tax and the COE follow that engine, while insurance follows the car and the driver. This guide goes through what it costs to keep in Singapore: COE, road tax and insurance, then the costs that depend on you.

The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide to how prices compare, not a quote.

The car priced

The GLE300d has no entry on the new-car list now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type.

Our quote form prices the GLE300D with a 1,950cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote.

COE

The 1,950cc engine is above 1,600cc. So the GLE300d needs a Category B COE, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

Bought used, the car's COE is already paid. What remains on it is reflected in the price. The COE page has later results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,950cc engine S$1,153.46 a year, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge comes in after 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Road tax follows engine size, not the size of the car. That is why this engine sets the figure above. The road tax page explains the formula.

The insurance spread

The Mercedes-Benz GLE300d price page prices this case:

  • Car: GLE300d, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% NCD, no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

9 insurers price it. Seven on our panel do not price it online. The lowest premium is S$1,046.37 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,069.52. That is S$1,023.15 more, or 98% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

So the top end is nearly double the bottom. That is reason enough to compare before you buy, and again each time you renew. Some prices shown are estimates.

Excess

Most plans set S$600, the lowest included. Some set S$800, one has none, and one asks S$2,500. The S$2,500 plan sits second from the bottom on price. Its premium looks attractive, but you would pay more of any claim yourself.

Plan levels

Several insurers list two or three plans each. The fuller plans cost more and may add extras. Compare similar plan levels when you look across insurers. The page names each plan, so you can look up what it covers before you weigh its price against another.

What changes the price

The lowest price with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,347.61, S$301.24 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,347.61, S$301.24 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,347.61, S$301.24 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,143.46, S$97.09 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$1,077.85, S$31.48 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$995.98, S$50.39 less

The NCD makes the biggest single difference, at 29% more without it. That is a smaller jump than on some cars, but still S$301.24 a year. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The older driver pays a bit more. An older car costs a little less to insure. These are lowest prices only; other plans may move by different sums.

Against six similar cars

For the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$891.93. The GLE300d is 17% above that, and all six cost less to insure. For this driver, the GLE is dearer to insure than each of them. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page has the other models.

Before you buy one used

  • Confirm the engine: GLEs have come with several engines. The figures here are for the 1,950cc car.
  • Check the dates: first registration sets the surcharge and the COE years left.
  • Quote your own details: the example assumes a 50% NCD and a 40-year-old driver.
  • Ask for the records: a service history tells you what is due.
  • Check the price dates: each premium on the page shows when it was read. Some may have changed since.

Costs that depend on you

These have no single figure. They depend on where you live and how you use the car:

  • Parking: season parking at home and work, plus parking elsewhere. Check your own block's rates first.
  • Fuel: your distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: the gantries on your routes and when you pass them.
  • Servicing and parts: follow the maker's schedule, and get a quote for any big job.
  • Depreciation: what you pay set against what the car fetches later.

The yearly figures

For the Mercedes-Benz GLE300d:

  • Road tax: S$1,153.46 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, example driver: from S$1,046.37 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,347.61
  • Insurance, car 8 years old: from S$995.98

For reference, a Category B COE closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
