The GLB250 is a larger-engined GLB, with a 1,991cc engine. In Singapore, an engine that size puts the car in Category B and lifts the road tax well above the smaller-engined versions. This guide shows those costs in figures, along with car insurance and the bills that depend on you.
The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare. They are not a quote.
The version priced
There is no GLB250 on the new-car list now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type for it.
Our quote form prices the GLB250 with its 1,991cc engine, the version most of our insurers quote.
COE
The 1,991cc engine is above 1,600cc, so the GLB250 needs a Category B COE. That closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
You will most likely buy a GLB250 used, with its COE already paid. The remaining years are in the price. The COE page has later results.
Road tax
LTA's formula sets the road tax for a 1,991cc engine at S$1,201.54 a year, before any age surcharge.
From the 10th year on, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page shows the formula for this and other engine sizes.
The insurance spread
The Mercedes-Benz GLB250 price page prices this example:
- Car: GLB250, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% NCD, no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
12 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$881.60 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,688.29. That is S$806.69 more, or 92% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
That is close to double between the low and high end, for the same car and driver. Four insurers on our panel do not price it online. Some prices shown are estimates.
The excess
Most plans carry S$600, the lowest included. Others carry S$500 or S$800. One plan has no excess. Several ask S$2,500 or S$3,000. Two plans priced close together can differ by thousands on the excess, so check it.
Basic and fuller plans
Many insurers on the page list more than one plan. The basic ones are near the top of the list. The fuller ones cost more and may add extras. Compare like with like. A basic plan from one insurer against a fuller plan from another tells you little about which insurer charges more.
How the price moves
The lowest price with one detail changed:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,039.94, S$158.34 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,039.94, S$158.34 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,039.94, S$158.34 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,039.94, S$158.34 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$909.07, S$27.47 more
- A car 8 years old: S$846.53, S$35.07 less
Here the NCD makes less difference than on many cars, at 18% more without it. Four of the changes land on the same figure, including the older driver. Car age shifts the price only a little. These are lowest prices only; other plans may move by other sums.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page compares:
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Toyota Voxy: S$793.75
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Lexus RX: S$972.39
- BMW 3 Series: S$1,009.11
Their average lowest price is S$891.93. The GLB250 is 1% below that, so it sits about level with the group. Three of the six cost less to insure. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page has the other models.
GLB250 or a smaller-engined GLB
If you are choosing between GLB versions, the engine is the main cost difference you can see in figures. The 1,991cc car pays S$1,201.54 a year in road tax and needs a Category B COE. Smaller-engined versions pay less road tax. Their COE category depends on power. Price each version on the quote form, since the premiums differ too.
Before you buy a used one
- Check the log card: confirm the 1,991cc engine and the first registration date.
- Check the COE: how many years are left, and when it ends.
- Check your own price: the example is for one driver. Yours may differ.
- Check the price dates: each price on the page shows when it was read. Prices read some days ago may have moved since.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at home and work, and short stays elsewhere.
- Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
- ERP: the roads you use and the times you use them.
- Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery. Ask for the service record.
- Depreciation: what you pay set against the resale price.
