How much a Mercedes-Benz GLB200 costs to own in Singapore

Mercedes-Benz GLB200 in Singapore: road tax, the COE rule for its 1,332cc engine and dated car insurance prices, with what changes them.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

How much does a Mercedes-Benz GLB200 cost once you own it? This guide answers that question one bill at a time. The GLB200 on our quote form has a 1,332cc engine. It is not on the new-car list now, so the figures here suit someone looking at the used market.

Each insurance price is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. It shows how insurers compare for that driver. Your own figure will depend on your details.

Which GLB200 is this?

The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here.

Our quote form prices the GLB200 with a 1,332cc petrol engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote.

Which COE does it need?

That depends on power, because the engine is 1,332cc. A GLB200 with 97kW (130bhp) or less needs a Category A COE. One with more power needs a Category B COE.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. With a used car, you are not bidding. You are paying for the years left on its COE, inside the asking price. The COE page has later rounds.

What is the road tax?

LTA's formula gives S$585.72 a year for the 1,332cc engine, before any age surcharge.

Cars past 10 years pay more:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

So at 14 years and beyond, the bill is half as much again. The road tax page explains the formula.

What does insurance cost?

The Mercedes-Benz GLB200 price page uses one example:

  • Car: GLB200, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

12 insurers quote it. The lowest premium is S$787.96. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,265.83, which is S$477.87 more, or 61% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Four insurers on our panel do not price this model online. A few of the prices shown are estimates, so check those with the insurer before you rely on them.

How big is the excess?

Mostly S$600, including on the lowest plan. A few plans set S$500 or S$800. One has none. One asks S$2,500. The excess is the first part of each claim, which you pay. A small premium saving is not worth much if the excess is several times higher.

Are the plans the same?

No. Many insurers list a basic plan and fuller ones. The fuller plans cost more and may add cover, for example a courtesy car or NCD protection. Before you set two prices side by side, check they are for similar plans.

What changes the price most?

Here is the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,026.94, S$238.98 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,026.94, S$238.98 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,026.94, S$238.98 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$787.96, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$811.71, S$23.75 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$721.59, S$66.37 less

The NCD again. With none, the lowest price is 30% higher. The younger, newer driver pays the same higher figure. At 65 with long experience, the price is unchanged. An 8-year-old car costs a little less to insure. These are lowest prices only; other plans can move by other sums.

Is it dearer to insure than similar cars?

Slightly. For the same driver and car age, the price page shows:

Their average lowest price is S$742.05. The GLB200 is 6% above it. Three of the six cost less, and three cost more. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page has other models.

What should you check on a used one?

  • The engine size: other GLB versions have bigger engines and pay more road tax.
  • The registration date: it sets the surcharge step and the COE years left.
  • Your own price: the example driver has a 50% NCD. Price the car with your own record.
  • The service record: ask what has been done and what is due.
  • The price dates: each premium on the page shows the day it was read, so check how recent it is.

What else will you pay?

These depend on you, so there is no single figure:

  • Parking: season parking at home and work, plus everywhere else.
  • Petrol: how far you drive, times the pump price.
  • ERP: which gantries you pass and when.
  • Wear and tear: tyres, brakes and a battery over the years.
  • Depreciation: the gap between what you pay and what you sell for.

The yearly figures, together
