The GLA is the smallest SUV in the Mercedes-Benz range sold here. If you are weighing one up, the sticker price is only the start. This piece sets out each cost we have a figure for, then the ones that depend on how you use the car.
The insurance prices below are examples for one driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own quote will turn on your age, record and car. Use these figures to see the shape of the costs, not as a promise of price.
Which GLA versions are on sale
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 shows three versions. All are SUVs made in Germany, and all use a 1,332cc engine:
- GLA200 Sport: petrol, 161bhp
- GLA180 AMG Line Mild Hybrid: petrol-electric, 129bhp
- GLA200 AMG Line Mild Hybrid: petrol-electric, 161bhp
Our quote form covers older versions as well. These include a GLA 200 with a 1,595cc engine and the AMG models with 1,991cc engines. The insurance figures here are for the GLA 200 1.3, the version most insurers on our panel quote.
What it costs to buy
List prices include COE. As listed on 2026-10-10:
- GLA200 Sport: S$231,800
- GLA180 AMG Line Mild Hybrid: S$266,388
- GLA200 AMG Line Mild Hybrid: S$306,000
The gap from the lowest to the highest list price is large, so the trim you pick is the first big cost decision. Prices shift with each COE round. When a dealer quotes you, ask what is in the package before you compare one offer with another.
The COE question
A new car in Singapore needs a Certificate of Entitlement. The GLA 200 1.3, with its 1,332cc engine, falls into a category set by its power. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more than that.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001. Category B closed at S$130,100. These premiums change every round, so check the COE results page for the latest figures.
Yearly road tax
Road tax in Singapore follows engine size for petrol cars. For the 1,332cc engine, LTA's formula comes to S$585.72 a year. That is before any surcharge for age.
Once the car passes 10 years, a surcharge applies on top:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The older 1,595cc and 1,991cc versions pay more, as their engines are larger. The road tax page lets you check other engine sizes.
Insuring a GLA: the standard example
The Mercedes-Benz GLA price page prices this driver and car:
- Car: GLA 200 1.3, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
On that basis, 14 insurers give a price. The lowest is S$787.96 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan costs most asks at least S$1,241.44. That is S$453.48 more, or 58% on top. Every price includes 9% GST.
So the same driver could pay well over half as much again for similar cover. Comparing before you renew is worth the time.
Excess and plan type
Each plan carries an excess, the share of a claim you pay first. On this page most plans set it at S$600. The range runs from S$0 on one plan to S$3,000 on another. Some low premiums sit with a high excess, so read the two numbers together.
Plan names differ, too. One low-priced plan is a collision-only cover, while others are full comprehensive plans. Check what each plan covers, not just its price.
Two insurers on our panel give no online price for the GLA yet.
What moves the premium
The price page also lists the lowest price when one detail changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,002.00, S$214.04 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,002.00, S$214.04 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,002.00, S$214.04 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$787.96, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$811.71, S$23.75 more
- Car 8 years old: S$721.59, S$66.37 less
Losing your NCD is the change that costs most here, at 27% more on the lowest price. A younger driver with less experience lands at the same figure. An older, experienced driver pays the same as the standard example. These figures are the lowest prices only, and dearer plans can move by other amounts.
How it compares on insurance
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars. Their lowest prices are:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- Honda Vezel: S$824.33
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Honda HR-V: S$642.42
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
Their average lowest price is S$742.05. The GLA, at S$787.96, comes in 6% above that, and three of the six cost less to insure. It sits below the BMW X1 and well below the Mazda 3. More Mercedes-Benz models are on the Mercedes-Benz car insurance page.
The running costs that are yours to set
Some costs depend so much on the owner that one figure would mislead.
- Parking: your HDB or condo season parking, plus parking at work, malls and on the street. Check the rate at your own block.
- Petrol: turns on how far you drive and the pump price. The mild hybrids add an electric motor to the petrol engine.
- ERP: depends on your routes and the times you travel.
- Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due over time. Ask what the warranty and any service package include.
- Depreciation: what the car loses over its COE life depends on what you pay and what it sells for later.
The yearly figures in one place

- Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,002.00

One-off costs, for reference: list prices from S$231,800 as listed on 2026-10-10. The COE in the October 2026 1st round was S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B.
