The G-Class is the upright, boxy Mercedes-Benz SUV, and its list prices start in the high hundreds of thousands. Once bought, though, it pays the same kinds of yearly bills as any other car on the road. This guide covers each: the list prices, the COE, road tax and car insurance, then the costs set by your own use.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium will depend on your details. These figures are for comparison.
On sale, and on the form
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has two versions, both SUVs made in Austria:
- G-Class Mild Hybrid G500: petrol-electric, 2,999cc, 443bhp
- G-Class Mild Hybrid G63 AMG: petrol-electric, 3,982cc, 577bhp
Our quote form prices the older G 350 3.0, with a 2,987cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote. So the insurance and road tax figures below are for the G 350, not the two on sale now.
List prices
As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included that day:
- G500: S$799,888
- G63 AMG: S$1,087,888
List prices move with the COE. Check what each dealer's offer includes.
COE
The G 350's 2,987cc engine is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
The COE page has later results.
Road tax
LTA's formula sets the road tax for the 2,987cc engine at S$2,369.86 a year, before any age surcharge. That is a large fixed bill, and it is more than the lowest insurance premium below.
The age surcharge adds to it:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The G500 and G63 have different engine sizes, so their road tax differs. Look them up on the road tax page.
Insurance for one driver
The Mercedes-Benz G price page prices this example:
- Car: G 350 3.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
9 insurers price the G 350. The lowest premium is S$1,071.15 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,430.32. That is S$1,359.17 more, or 127% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
So two insurers can be more than double apart on the same car. Seven insurers on our panel do not price it online, which leaves a shorter list. Some prices are estimates; confirm them with the insurer.
Excess
The lowest plan has a S$2,500 excess. The next one, a few dollars dearer, has S$600. Most plans here carry S$600, some carry S$800, and one has none. On a car like this, a claim can be costly, so the excess deserves a close look.
What moves the price
The lowest price with one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,474.98, S$403.83 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,474.98, S$403.83 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,474.98, S$403.83 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,173.76, S$102.61 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$1,064.65, S$6.50 less
- A car 8 years old: S$966.74, S$104.41 less
Without the NCD, the lowest price is 38% higher. The older driver pays a fair bit more. A new car costs almost the same as a 3-year-old one, and an 8-year-old one costs less. These are lowest prices only; other plans can move by other amounts.
Similar cars
The price page compares six cars with engines of a similar size:
- Audi Q7: S$1,238.58
- Audi S4 Saloon: S$1,501.01
- Audi S5: S$1,238.58
- Audi S5 SPRTback: S$1,238.58
- Audi SQ5: S$1,210.01
- BMW 7 Series: S$1,030.55
Their average lowest price is S$1,242.89. The G 350 is 14% below that. Only the BMW 7 Series is cheaper to insure for this driver. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page has the other models.
If you are looking at a used G 350
- Registration date: it sets the road tax step and the COE years left.
- Engine: confirm it is the 2,987cc car, since the figures here hold only for that one.
- Your own quote: a lower NCD or a younger driver raises the price, as the list above shows.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at home and work. A large SUV may not suit every lot, so check yours.
- Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and times.
- Servicing and parts: follow the maker's schedule. Ask for quotes on major items before they fall due.
- Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches when you sell.
