The CLS450 AMG is a high-end, four-door Mercedes-Benz with a 2,999cc engine. In Singapore, a car like this costs a lot to tax, and few insurers price it online. This guide lays out the figures we hold: the COE category, road tax and car insurance, with the costs that depend on you at the end.
The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare. They are not what you will be quoted.
The car priced
The CLS450 AMG has no entry on the new-car list now. That means no list price, power figure or body type here.
Our quote form prices the CLS450 AMG with a 2,999cc engine, the version most of our insurers quote.
Category B COE
At 2,999cc, the engine is above 1,600cc. The CLS450 AMG therefore needs a Category B COE, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
A CLS450 AMG bought today will be used. Its COE has been paid, and the years left are inside the price. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax
LTA's formula sets road tax for the 2,999cc engine at S$2,383.92 a year, before any age surcharge. That is a large fixed bill every year.
Older cars pay more on top:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
With a base this high, the later steps add a lot. The road tax page explains how the figure is set.
Only five insurers
The Mercedes-Benz CLS450 AMG price page prices this example:
- Car: CLS450 AMG, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% NCD, no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
Only 5 insurers price this car online. Eleven on our panel do not. So the choice you can compare online is narrow.
The lowest premium is S$1,153.38 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$3,682.30. That is S$2,528.92 more, or 219% on top. Prices include 9% GST.
So even among five insurers, the high end costs more than three times the low end. It is worth asking insurers that do not quote online, too, since their prices are not shown here.
The excess
Most plans here carry S$600 or S$800. One has no excess, and one asks S$2,500. You pay the excess first on any claim. With so few plans to choose from, read the excess on each before you compare premiums.
The lowest-priced plan here has a S$600 excess, the most common level. The plan names also differ in what they add. A basic plan and a fuller plan from the same insurer will not hold the same cover. Check each plan's details on the price page.
Several of the prices are marked as estimates. Confirm those with the insurer.
One change at a time
The lowest price with one detail changed:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,551.16, S$397.78 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,551.16, S$397.78 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,551.16, S$397.78 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,371.56, S$218.18 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$1,391.34, S$237.96 more
- A car 8 years old: S$1,082.96, S$70.42 less
Without the NCD, the lowest price is 34% higher. The older driver adds S$218.18 and the new car adds S$237.96. On many cars those two lines barely move, so this is worth noting if you are 65 or over or want a newer car. The 8-year-old car costs less. These are lowest prices only, and with few insurers they can shift if one changes its rates.
Similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page compares:
- Audi Q7: S$1,238.58
- Audi S4 Saloon: S$1,501.01
- Audi S5: S$1,238.58
- Audi S5 SPRTback: S$1,238.58
- Audi SQ5: S$1,210.01
- BMW 7 Series: S$1,030.55
The six average S$1,242.89. The CLS450 AMG is 7% below that, and only one of the six is cheaper to insure. Most of those cars are priced by more insurers, though. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page has the wider range.
Before you buy one
- The date of first registration: it tells you the road tax step and the COE years left.
- Your own quote: a younger driver or a lower NCD costs much more, as the list shows.
- Offline quotes: with only five insurers online, ask others directly before you settle.
Costs only you can estimate
There is no single figure for these:
- Parking: season parking at home and work, plus parking elsewhere.
- Petrol: your mileage and the pump price.
- ERP: your routes and times of day.
- Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. Ask for the service history and what is due next.
- Depreciation: what you pay set against what the car will fetch later.
