Mercedes-Benz CLA250 AMG ownership in Singapore, with insurance costs

Category B COE, road tax and dated car insurance prices for a used Mercedes-Benz CLA250 AMG in Singapore, with similar cars compared.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The CLA250 AMG sits near the top of the older CLA range, with a 1,991cc engine. In Singapore that bigger engine changes the COE category and the road tax. This guide works out what the car costs to own each year and how the insurance compares with similar cars.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium will depend on your details.

What is being priced

The CLA250 AMG has no entry on the new-car list now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type.

Our quote form prices the CLA250 AMG with its 1,991cc engine, the version most of our insurers quote.

The COE

At 1,991cc, the engine is above 1,600cc, so the CLA250 AMG needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

You will most likely buy one used. Its COE is paid, and the years left on it shape the price. Each round brings new results; see the COE page.

Road tax

For a 1,991cc engine, LTA's formula comes to S$1,201.54 a year, before any age surcharge.

A car over 10 years old pays more:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The surcharge is worked out on the base figure, so a bigger engine means bigger steps. The road tax page gives the formula.

Insurance for one driver

The Mercedes-Benz CLA250 AMG price page prices this case:

  • Car: CLA250 AMG, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% NCD, no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

13 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$825.86. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,603.22. That is S$777.36 more, or 94% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

In other words, the high end costs almost twice the low end for the same car and driver. Several prices are estimates, so confirm those with the insurer before you decide.

Excess on each plan

The excess is your share of a claim. Most plans on this page carry S$600. Others carry S$500, S$750 or S$800. One plan has no excess, and one asks S$2,500. Put the excess and the premium side by side when you compare.

The lowest-priced plan here carries the common S$600 excess. That makes the low end of the range easier to read than on cars where the lowest plan hides a large excess. Further up the list, the excess and the extras vary more.

Three insurers on our panel have no online price for this model.

How the price shifts

The price page changes one detail and shows the new lowest price:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,225.02, S$399.16 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,225.02, S$399.16 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,220.45, S$394.59 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$871.75, S$45.89 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$850.70, S$24.84 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$786.09, S$39.77 less

The NCD again matters most. With none, the lowest price is 48% higher. The younger driver pays almost as much as the driver with no NCD. The older driver pays somewhat more than the 40-year-old. And an 8-year-old car costs less to insure. These are lowest prices only; other plans may move by other amounts.

How it sits among similar cars

For the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$891.93. The CLA250 AMG is 7% below that. Only two of the six cost less to insure. For this driver, then, the CLA250 AMG is among the lower-priced cars in its group to insure. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page covers the wider range.

Checks for a used CLA250 AMG

  • Engine size: confirm it is the 1,991cc car. Other CLAs pay less road tax and are priced differently.
  • Age: the first registration date tells you the road tax step and the COE years left.
  • Your record: the figures above assume a 50% NCD. With less, your premium will be higher.
  • Cover level: these are comprehensive prices with no add-ons. Extras cost more.

Costs that depend on you

These have no single figure. They depend on where you live, how far you go and how long you keep the car.

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus work and weekend parking.
  • Petrol: set by distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: set by the roads you use and the times you use them.
  • Servicing: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery come round in time, so ask what has been replaced.
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left and the price you sell for.

Yearly figures together
