The CLA200D AMG is a less common CLA, with a larger 2,143cc engine than most of the range. That has two effects in Singapore: higher road tax, and fewer insurers that price it online. This guide shows both, along with the COE category and the costs that depend on you.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a way to compare, not a quote.
The car priced
There is no CLA200D AMG on the new-car list today. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type.
Our quote form prices the CLA200D AMG with its 2,143cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote. The figures below are all for that car.
COE category
The 2,143cc engine is above 1,600cc. So the CLA200D AMG needs a Category B COE, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
If you are buying one now, it will be second hand with its COE already paid. What is left on that COE is part of the price. The COE page has later rounds.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 2,143cc engine S$1,379.84 a year, before any age surcharge. That is well above the smaller-engined CLAs, because road tax rises with engine size.
Past 10 years, the surcharge steps up:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
On a base this size, each step is a noticeable sum. See the road tax page for the formula.
Fewer insurers, fewer choices
The Mercedes-Benz CLA200D AMG price page prices this example:
- Car: CLA200D AMG, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
Only 7 insurers price this car. Nine insurers on our panel have no online price for it. That is a much shorter list than for most cars.
The lowest premium is S$897.91 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,590.76. That is S$692.85 more, or 77% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
With fewer insurers in the running, each quote counts for more. It is worth asking the ones that do not price online as well.
A short list also means the order can change quickly. If one insurer revises its rates, the lowest price for this car moves with it. Each price on the page shows the date it was read, so check how recent it is.
Excess
The excesses here are simpler than on most cars. Nearly every plan carries S$600. One carries S$500, and one has no excess at all. So for this car, the premiums can be compared almost like for like.
How much the NCD matters here
The lowest price with one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,790.98, S$893.07 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,436.64, S$538.73 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,257.06, S$359.15 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$897.91, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$897.91, the same
- A car 8 years old: S$897.91, the same
This car shows the NCD effect more sharply than most. With no NCD, the lowest price is 99% higher, close to double. Even at 20% NCD, it is over S$500 more. The car's age makes no difference at the lowest price, and nor does the older driver. These are lowest prices only, so other plans may move differently.
If you are new to driving or have lost your NCD, budget for that gap before you commit.
Against similar cars
The price page sets six cars with engines of a similar size beside it:
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Toyota Vellfire: S$764.82
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Lexus RX: S$972.39
- BMW 3 Series: S$1,009.11
Their average lowest price is S$887.11. The CLA200D AMG is 1% above it, so about level. Three of the six cost less to insure. Every one of them is priced by far more insurers, though. Other Mercedes-Benz models are on the Mercedes-Benz car insurance page.
Before you commit
- Check the version: the CLA range spans several engines. The road tax and premium here hold only for the 2,143cc car.
- Check the registration date: it fixes the surcharge and the COE years left.
- Get more than one quote: with seven insurers pricing online, the spread is still wide.
Costs that depend on you
The figures above are the ones we can show. The ones below vary with each owner, so only you can put a number on them.
- Parking: season parking at home and work, and wherever else you stop.
- Fuel: depends on your mileage and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and timing.
- Servicing and parts: follow the maker's schedule. Ask for the service record and what is due next.
- Depreciation: what you pay now set against what the car is worth when you sell it.
