The CLA180 AMG Line is the sportier-trimmed version of an earlier CLA, with a 1,332cc engine. It is now bought second hand. If you are thinking about one, this guide lists what it costs each year and what sets those costs.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium may be higher or lower. Use the figures to compare, not as a promise of a price.
About the version priced
The CLA180 AMG Line is not on the new-car list now, so this guide has no list price, power figure or body type for it.
Our quote form prices the CLA180 AMG Line with a 1,332cc petrol engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote. All the insurance figures that follow are for it.
Category A or B
A 1,332cc engine puts the decision on power. The CLA180 AMG Line needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. With more power, it needs a Category B COE.
In the October 2026 1st round, those closed at S$130,001 and S$130,100. On a used car, you pay for the remaining COE years in the price, not at a bidding round. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax
The 1,332cc engine pays S$585.72 a year in road tax under LTA's formula, before any age surcharge. That is on the lower side, since the engine is small.
After 10 years, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Check the car's age before you buy, so you know when the next step lands. The road tax page has the formula.
The insurance picture
The Mercedes-Benz CLA180 AMG Line price page uses one example:
- Car: CLA180 AMG Line, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
14 insurers quote this example. The lowest premium is S$767.38 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,324.39. That is S$557.01 more, or 73% on top. Prices include 9% GST.
So two insurers can be more than S$500 apart for the same car and the same person. Some prices on the page are estimates, so confirm them first.
All of these are comprehensive plans. They cover damage to your own car as well as to other people and their property. Third-party-only cover costs less, but it pays nothing towards your own repairs. The figures here do not show those cheaper covers.
Excess levels
On this page, most plans carry a S$600 excess. Others carry S$500 or S$800. One has none, and the rest ask S$2,500 or S$3,000. The excess is your share of every claim. Two plans with close premiums can differ by thousands of dollars here.

The effect of one change
The lowest price with one detail different:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,131.99, up S$364.61
- 20% NCD: S$1,131.99, up S$364.61
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,131.99, up S$364.61
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$787.96, up S$20.58
- A new car, registered this year: S$790.47, up S$23.09
- A car 8 years old: S$721.59, down S$45.79
The NCD carries the most weight. Without it, the lowest price is 48% higher. The younger driver hits the same figure. An older driver pays a touch more. An 8-year-old car costs less to insure. These are lowest prices only, and other plans may move by different sums.
The CLA180 against six similar cars
Same driver, same car age:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Honda Vezel: S$824.33
- Honda HR-V: S$642.42
Their average is S$742.05. The CLA180 AMG Line is 3% above that, and three of the six cost less to insure. It sits in the middle of this group. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page lists the other models.
Points to check on a used CLA
- The log card: confirm the engine size and first registration date. Both feed the road tax.
- COE years left: they shape the asking price and what the car is worth later.
- Your NCD: it goes with you, not the car. A different NCD from the 50% here changes your premium, as the list above shows.
- Add-ons: the prices here have none. If you want NCD protection or other extras, price them in.
Costs no figure can cover
- Parking: season parking where you live and work, plus parking on outings.
- Petrol: distance times the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and times.
- Servicing and parts: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery will come up in time. Ask what has been replaced.
- Depreciation: the gap between your buying price and your selling price.
