If you are thinking about a Mazda CX-9, you are most likely looking at a used one. Its costs in Singapore come mostly from the COE, road tax and insurance. This guide takes each one in turn and shows the figures we hold.
Insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver on 20 October 2026. Your own premium depends on your details. Use these figures to see how the costs fit together.
Two engines on the quote form
The new-car list has no CX-9 on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type.
Our quote form lists two versions:
- Mazda CX-9: 3,726cc
- Mazda CX-9 2.5: 2,488cc
The insurance and road tax figures below are for the 2.5, the version most of our insurers quote. The larger engine pays more road tax, so check its figure on the road tax page if you are looking at one.
The COE you would need
A car with a 2,488cc engine is above 1,600cc. That puts the CX-9 2.5 in Category B. In the October 2026 1st round, the Category B COE closed at S$130,100.
On a used car, the COE has been paid already. What you pay for the remaining years sits inside the asking price. Results change every round; see the COE page.
Road tax each year
LTA works road tax out from engine size. For the 2,488cc CX-9 2.5, it comes to S$1,784.52 a year, before any surcharge for age.
Once a car is more than 10 years old, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Check the car's registration date before you buy, as it tells you which step you will reach and when. The road tax page covers other engine sizes, including the larger CX-9.
Insurance for the example driver
The Mazda CX-9 price page prices this case:
- Car: CX-9 2.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% NCD, no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
15 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$998.16 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,698.31, which is S$700.15 more, or 70% on top. Every price includes 9% GST.
That spread is wide enough to make comparing worth the time. Some prices on the page carry an estimate mark, so confirm those on the insurer's site.
The excess on each plan
The excess is what you pay towards a claim before the insurer pays the rest. Most plans here set it at S$600. Others sit at S$500, S$750 or S$800. One plan has no excess, and several ask S$2,500 or S$3,000. Read the premium and the excess together.
Also check what each plan covers beyond the basics. Plans at the same price can differ on windscreen cover, a courtesy car, or whether your NCD is protected. The price page lists each plan by name, so you can compare like with like.
One insurer on our panel has no online price for this model yet.
Change one detail, see the price move
The price page reprices the car with one change at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,232.11, S$233.95 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,232.11, S$233.95 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,232.11, S$233.95 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,037.02, S$38.86 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$1,028.19, S$30.03 more
- A car 8 years old: S$931.07, S$67.09 less
Without the NCD, the lowest price rises 23%. The older driver pays a little more, not less. And an 8-year-old CX-9 costs the least of these to insure, which helps if you buy used. The figures are lowest prices only, so other plans can move differently.
How it compares with similar cars
The same driver and car age, on six cars of a similar engine size:
- Toyota Camry: S$841.31
- Toyota Alphard: S$764.82
- Toyota Vellfire: S$764.82
- Honda Odyssey: S$811.71
- Mitsubishi Outlander: S$861.03
- Audi RS 3 Sedan: S$1,310.08
The six average S$892.30. The CX-9 is 12% above that, and five of the six cost less to insure. Only the Audi is dearer. Other Mazdas are on the Mazda car insurance page.
Costs that turn on how you use it
These have no fixed figure, so plan for them yourself:
- Parking: your season parking at home and at work, plus parking when you go out. Check your own block's rates first.
- Petrol: depends on how far you go and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and timing.
- Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over time. On a used car, ask for the service record.
- Depreciation: depends on the price you pay and the COE years left on the car.
