Mazda 3 running costs in Singapore, from COE to car insurance

What a Mazda 3 costs you in Singapore: list prices, the COE rule, road tax and dated car insurance examples for several drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 6 min read

If a Mazda 3 is on your shortlist, the sticker price is only the start. You also pay for a COE, road tax every year and car insurance every year. This guide takes those costs one at a time.

The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show how prices sit against each other. Your own quote will depend on your details.

Which Mazda 3 versions are on sale

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 shows five versions, all mild hybrids with a 1,496cc engine and 118bhp. The car is made in Japan and is listed as a sedan, though one version is a hatchback.

  • Sedan Mild Hybrid 1.5 Classic
  • Sedan Mild Hybrid 1.5 Classic Plus
  • Sedan Mild Hybrid 1.5 Executive
  • Sedan Mild Hybrid 1.5 Luxury
  • Hatchback Mild Hybrid 1.5 Astina

Our quote form covers more than the current range, because people also insure older cars. It lists eight versions, from a 1.5 and a 1.6 to the MZR 2.0 with its 1,999cc engine. The insurance prices below are for the 1.5 M-Hybrid Classic, the version most insurers quote.

What it costs to buy

These are list prices as listed on 2026-10-10. Each one included COE on that day.

  • Sedan 1.5 Classic Plus: S$206,888
  • Sedan 1.5 Classic: S$212,200
  • Sedan 1.5 Executive: S$212,888
  • Sedan 1.5 Luxury: S$217,888
  • Hatchback 1.5 Astina: S$221,888

The gap from the lowest to the highest list price is mostly about trim and body. Dealers update their prices after COE rounds, so ask for a current figure. When you compare two offers, check that both include the same items.

The COE question

Every new car in Singapore needs a Certificate of Entitlement. The category depends on engine size and power.

For the Mazda 3 1.5 M-Hybrid Classic, with its 1,496cc engine, the price page sets out the rule. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is more, it needs a Category B COE.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. Premiums move every round, and the COE page carries the latest results.

Road tax each year

Road tax in Singapore follows engine capacity. For the 1,496cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$681.90 a year. That is before any surcharge for age.

Once a car passes 10 years, a surcharge applies on top:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The older 1.6 and 2.0 versions on the quote form have bigger engines, so they pay more. The road tax page works out other engine sizes.

Insuring a Mazda 3: the standard driver

The Mazda 3 price page prices one set of details:

  • The car: Mazda 3 1.5 M-Hybrid Classic, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • The driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • The record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, with no options added

On those details, 12 insurers give a price. The lowest is S$927.36 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan costs most asks at least S$1,724.74. That is S$797.38 more, or 86% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Four more insurers have no online price for the Mazda 3 yet. So the field you can compare online is a little smaller than for some cars.

Several premiums near the bottom of the page sit within a few dollars of each other. That makes the excess and the plan details worth a close look.

Check the excess too

The excess is what you pay towards a claim yourself. On this page, most plans carry S$600. The full range runs from S$0 to S$3,000. One of the lower premiums comes with a S$3,000 excess, so a lower price can mean a bigger bill if you claim. Some prices are marked as estimates on the page, which is worth noting when you compare.

What moves the premium

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes and everything else stays the same:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,193.46, which is S$266.10 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,193.46, S$266.10 more
  • A driver aged 27 with 3 years' driving and 30% NCD: S$1,193.46, S$266.10 more
  • A driver aged 65 with 20 or more years' driving: S$928.89, S$1.53 more, with 11 insurers pricing
  • A new car, registered this year: S$928.89, S$1.53 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$856.75, S$70.61 less

The biggest change here is losing your NCD. With no NCD, the lowest price rises by 29%. A younger driver with a lower NCD lands at the same figure. An older car is the one change that brings the lowest price down.

Keep in mind these are lowest prices only. Plans further up the list may move by different amounts.

How it compares with similar cars

The price page sets the Mazda 3 beside six similar cars, for the same driver and car age. Here is the lowest price for each:

Their average lowest price is S$701.70. The Mazda 3 costs 32% more than that, and all 6 of these cars are cheaper to insure on these details. If insurance cost weighs heavily in your choice, that gap is worth knowing before you commit. Other Mazda models are on the Mazda car insurance page.

Costs only you can estimate

Some costs depend so much on how you live that no single figure fits.

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work, malls and on the street.
  • Petrol: set by how far you drive and pump prices. The current versions pair the engine with a mild hybrid system.
  • ERP: depends on the roads you use and when.
  • Servicing and wear: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery will need replacing over time. Ask what the warranty covers and for how long.
  • Depreciation: what the car loses in value over its COE life turns on what you pay now and what it fetches later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Mazda 3 1.5, with the date of each figure:

  • Road tax: S$681.90 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$927.36 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,193.46
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$856.75

The one-off costs, for reference: list prices from S$206,888 as listed on 2026-10-10. The COE in the October 2026 1st round was S$130,001 for Category A or S$130,100 for Category B.
