Mazda 5 costs in Singapore and an insurance price that holds steady

Mazda 5 2.0 SPRT costs in Singapore: Category B COE, road tax for a 1,999cc engine and an insurance price that rises only 10% without an NCD.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

On most cars, losing your no-claim discount adds a large sum to the insurance bill. On the Mazda 5, for our example driver, the lowest price rises by just 10%. This page explains that, and sets out the other costs we can show: road tax and the COE category.

The Mazda 5 has no entry on the new-car list now, so you would be buying used. Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not your quote.

The version on our form

Our quote form lists one version:

  • Mazda 5 2.0 SPRT: 1,999cc

There is no list price to give. Every figure below is for the 2.0 SPRT. Check the engine size on the car's papers matches before you rely on these figures.

COE

The price page's COE section says the Mazda 5 2.0 SPRT, with a 1,999cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE.

Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. COE results change every round; the COE page has the latest. On a used car, check when the COE expires. That date shapes how long you can keep the car and what it is worth.

Road tax

For a 1,999cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,210.92 a year, before any age surcharge. That is higher than the lowest insurance premium on the page, so for the example driver, road tax is the larger of the two yearly bills.

The surcharge, for cars over 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page covers other engine sizes.

Insurance for the example driver

The Mazda 5 price page prices this case:

  • Car: Mazda 5 2.0 SPRT, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

14 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$721.59. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,464.30. That is S$742.71 more, or 103% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Two insurers that price cars online have no online price for the Mazda 5. For one, the model is not on its online quote.

Excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. Ten of the 21 plans carry S$600. Three ask S$500 and three S$800. Three ask S$2,500, one asks S$3,000 and one has no excess. Check the excess column with care, as it varies widely. A plan with a S$2,500 or S$3,000 excess leaves most of a small claim with you. A plan at S$500 or S$600 costs you less when you claim, even if its premium is a little higher. Weigh how likely you are to claim.

A small NCD effect

The price page reprices the car with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$790.98, S$69.39 more
  • 20% NCD: S$790.98, S$69.39 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$790.98, S$69.39 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$721.59, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$742.90, S$21.31 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$660.69, S$60.90 less

With no NCD, the lowest price is only 10% higher, at S$790.98. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The 65-year-old pays the same as the base driver. An 8-year-old car is S$60.90 cheaper to insure.

Why so small? A different insurer is lowest once the NCD falls, and its price is close to the base case. So on this car, a driver without a full NCD can still find a price near the example. That only holds at the lowest price, though. Other plans on the page may rise by much more.

So if you are a newer driver, the Mazda 5 may be easier to insure than you expect. Get quotes with your real details to see where you land.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:

They average S$867.25. The Mazda 5 costs 17% less, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Harrier comes closest. Other Mazda models are on the Mazda car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

These vary by owner, so we give no figures:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus school, work and mall parking.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service record and what is due next.
  • Depreciation: depends on the price you pay and the COE years left.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
