Mazda 323 yearly costs in Singapore for an older used car

Mazda 323 costs in Singapore: road tax for the 1.4 with its age surcharge, the COE rules and insurance prices from 10 insurers, dated October 2026.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Mazda 323 is not on the new-car list, so in Singapore it is a car you buy used or already own. For an older car, two yearly costs matter most: road tax, which rises with age, and insurance. This page sets out both, with the COE section from our price page.

Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They give a sense of the market, not your own quote.

The versions on our form

Our quote form lists two:

  • Mazda 323 1.4: 1,415cc
  • Mazda 323 1.6: 1,598cc

The figures below are for the 1.4, which most insurers quote. There is no list price, as the model has no new-car list entry.

COE

For the Mazda 323 1.4, with a 1,415cc engine, the category depends on power. The price page's COE section says it needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest.

On an older car, the COE matters in another way. When it runs out, you must renew it or take the car off the road. Check the COE expiry date before you buy, and think about whether you plan to renew.

Road tax and the age surcharge

For the 1.4's 1,415cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$634.40 a year, before any age surcharge. The 1.6 pays a little more; check it on the road tax page.

The surcharge rises in steps once a car is past 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

For a model like this, the surcharge may well apply. Look up the registration date on the car's papers to see which step you would pay.

Insurance for the example driver

The Mazda 323 price page prices this case:

  • Car: Mazda 323 1.4, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

10 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$622.34. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,294.41. That is S$672.07 more, or 108% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Six insurers that price cars online have no online price for the 323. For one, the model is not on its online quote. The others have no online price for it yet.

The page prices a car registered 3 years ago. Any 323 for sale today is likely to be older, so the 8-year-old row below is the closer guide. Even that may be younger than the car you are looking at.

Excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. On this page the excesses sit in a narrow band. Eight of the 14 plans carry S$600, three ask S$500 and three S$800. No plan here has a zero or a very high excess. That makes the premiums easier to compare like for like.

How the price changes

The price page reprices the car with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$973.59, S$351.25 more
  • 20% NCD: S$973.59, S$351.25 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$973.59, S$351.25 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$622.34, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$642.42, S$20.08 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$569.36, S$52.98 less

No NCD costs the most, adding 56% to the lowest price. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The 65-year-old pays the same as the base driver. An 8-year-old car is S$52.98 cheaper to insure than the 3-year-old one on the page.

These are lowest prices only. A different insurer is lowest once the NCD drops, so if your discount is below 50%, compare again with your own figure.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six similar cars at the same driver and car age:

They average S$701.70. The 323 costs 11% less. Only the Toyota Sienta is cheaper to insure. Other Mazda models are on the Mazda car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

These vary by owner, so we give no figures:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus work and errands.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Servicing and repairs: an older car may need more parts over time. Ask what has been replaced and what is due next.
  • Depreciation: on an older car, this depends mostly on the COE life left.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$973.59
