Mazda 2 costs in Singapore, a low-premium car cost by cost

Mazda 2 costs in Singapore: the 1.5 Sports list price as listed on 2026-10-10, road tax and COE rules for the 1.3, and insurance below six rivals.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Mazda 2 is one of the lower-cost cars to insure on our price pages. For the example driver, none of the six similar cars it is set against costs less. This page goes through that and the other costs we can show: the list price, COE and road tax.

The new-car list figure is for the 1.5 Sports on sale today. The insurance, road tax and COE figures are for the 1.3 on our quote form. Each section says which it covers. Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026.

The versions

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has one Mazda 2 on sale, a hatchback made in Japan:

  • Mazda 2 Hatchback 1.5 Sports: petrol, 1,496cc, 89bhp

Our quote form lists two versions:

  • Mazda 2 1.3: 1,348cc
  • Mazda 2 1.5: 1,498cc

The insurance figures below are for the 1.3, the version most insurers quote.

List price

As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day:

  • Mazda 2 Hatchback 1.5 Sports: S$194,888

List prices move with every COE round, so a dealer's figure today may differ. When you compare offers, check what each one includes.

COE

For the Mazda 2 1.3, with a 1,348cc engine, the category depends on power. The price page's COE section says it needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest.

Road tax

For the 1.3's 1,348cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$595.10 a year, before any age surcharge. The 1.5 has a larger engine and pays a little more. Check it on the road tax page.

The age surcharge, for cars past 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Insurance for the example driver

The Mazda 2 price page prices this case:

  • Car: Mazda 2 1.3, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

14 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$586.41. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,232.23. That is S$645.82 more, or 110% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

So even on a low-premium car, the dearest is more than twice the lowest. Two insurers that price cars online have no online price for the Mazda 2. For one, the model is not on its online quote.

Excess

The excess is what you pay yourself on each claim. Ten of the 21 plans carry S$600. Three ask S$500 and three S$800. Three ask S$2,500, one asks S$3,000 and one has no excess.

On a car with a lowest premium under S$600, a S$2,500 or S$3,000 excess is several times the premium itself. A small repair may cost less than that excess, so you would pay it all yourself. Weigh that before you pick on premium alone.

How the price moves

The price page reprices the car with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$929.24, S$342.83 more
  • 20% NCD: S$929.24, S$342.83 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$929.24, S$342.83 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less

No NCD costs the most: the lowest price is 58% higher. The younger driver comes to the same figure. The 65-year-old pays the same as the base driver. A new car adds S$17.66, and an 8-year-old one saves S$41.41.

So the NCD is what moves this premium. If you are a newer driver, or have lost your discount, expect to start nearer S$929.24 than S$586.41. These are lowest prices only, and a different insurer is lowest once the NCD drops.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six similar cars at the same driver and car age:

They average S$736.74. The Mazda 2 costs 20% less, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Sienta comes closest. Other Mazda models are on the Mazda car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across the market.

Costs that depend on you

These vary by owner, so we give no figures:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus work and errands.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. On a new car, ask what the warranty covers; on a used one, ask for the records.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay and what the car fetches later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Mazda 2 1.3, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$595.10 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$586.41 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$929.24
  • Insurance, car 8 years old: from S$545.00

One-off costs for reference: the 1.5 Sports at S$194,888 as listed on 2026-10-10, and in the October 2026 1st round a COE of S$130,001 (Category A) or S$130,100 (Category B).
