20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Mazda 2 Hatchback 1.5 Sports is on sale new in Singapore, and our price page quotes the same version. That keeps this page simple: the list price, COE, road tax and insurance figures all refer to one car.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show how the costs compare and what moves them. Your own quote will depend on your details.

The version

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has one version on sale, a hatchback made in Japan:

  • Mazda 2 Hatchback 1.5 Sports: petrol, 1,496cc, 89bhp

Our quote form lists the same version at 1,496cc. Every figure below is for this car.

The price to buy

As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day:

  • Mazda 2 Hatchback 1.5 Sports: S$194,888

The list price moves with each COE round. A dealer's price on the day you buy may differ. When you compare offers, check what each includes, such as servicing or accessories, before you compare totals.

COE

For this car, with its 1,496cc engine, the COE category depends on power. The price page's COE section says it needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

For a 1,496cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$681.90 a year, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge only applies once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

For a new car, that is some way off. The road tax page shows other engine sizes.

Insurance for the example driver

The Mazda 2 Hatchback price page prices this case:

  • Car: Mazda 2 Hatchback 1.5 Sports, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

14 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$586.41. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,242.97. That is S$656.56 more, or 112% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Two insurers that price cars online have no online price for this car yet. So most of the market is in the comparison.

Excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. Ten of the 20 plans here carry S$600. Three ask S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. One asks S$2,500, and one has no excess.

Most plans sit between S$500 and S$800, so they compare fairly evenly. Watch for the one plan at S$2,500. Next to a premium under S$600, that excess is large.

What changes the premium

The price page reprices the car with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$966.78, S$380.37 more
  • 20% NCD: S$966.78, S$380.37 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$966.78, S$380.37 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less

No NCD costs the most. The lowest price is 65% higher. A younger driver with 30% NCD comes to the same S$966.78. The 65-year-old pays the same as the 40-year-old.

If you buy new, the "new car" row is the one to read: S$604.07 for the example driver, S$17.66 above the 3-year-old car. These are lowest prices only, and a different insurer is lowest once the NCD falls.

For a first car, or a driver without an NCD, the gap matters. The jump from S$586.41 to S$966.78 is the biggest change on this list. Plan your budget around the figure that fits your record.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:

They average S$701.70. The Mazda 2 Hatchback costs 16% less, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. Other Mazda models are on the Mazda car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across the market.

Costs that depend on you

These vary between owners, so we give no figures:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus office and mall parking.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule, and ask what the warranty and any service package cover.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay and what the car fetches later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
