The Mazda CX-8 is not on the new-car list now, so most people looking at one in Singapore are weighing a used car. This piece sets out the costs that come with it, one at a time. It covers the COE, road tax and car insurance, then the costs that depend on how you use the car.
The insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show how the costs compare. They are not a quote for you.
Which CX-8 these figures are for
The new-car list has no CX-8 on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type to report from it.
Our quote form prices the Mazda CX-8 2.5, with a 2,488cc petrol engine. That is the version most of our insurers quote, so every insurance figure below is for that car.
COE category
Any car on Singapore roads was first registered with a Certificate of Entitlement. With its 2,488cc engine, above 1,600cc, the CX-8 2.5 needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.
If you buy used, the COE is already paid, and what is left of it is built into the asking price. Results change every bidding round, and the COE page has the latest.
Road tax
Road tax follows engine capacity. For the 2,488cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,784.52 a year, before any age surcharge.
That surcharge matters for a used CX-8 once it passes 10 years:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
A big engine means a big base figure, so each step of the surcharge adds a fair sum. The road tax page shows how other engine sizes compare.
What insurance costs for the example driver
The Mazda CX-8 price page prices one set of details:
- Car: CX-8 2.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
On those details, 14 insurers give a price. The lowest is S$742.90 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,698.31. That is S$955.41 more, or 129% on top of the lowest. All prices include 9% GST.
So the same driver and the same car can cost more than twice as much from one insurer as from another. A few prices on the page are marked as estimates, so check those on the insurer's own site.
Excesses vary a lot
The excess is the part of each claim you pay first. On this page most plans set it at S$600. Others run at S$500, S$750 or S$800, one plan has none at all, and some ask S$2,500 or S$3,000. A low premium with a S$3,000 excess can cost you more in a year when you claim.
Two insurers on our panel have no online price for this model yet.
What moves the price
The price page also shows the lowest price when one detail changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,193.08, which is S$450.18 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,193.08, also S$450.18 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,193.08, S$450.18 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$742.90, no change
- A new car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 more
- A car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less
Losing the NCD is the costliest change here, at 61% more on the lowest price. The younger driver lands on the same figure. An older CX-8 costs less to insure at the lowest price, which suits a used buyer. These are lowest prices only; other plans may move by other amounts.
Similar cars, same driver
The price page sets the CX-8 against six cars with engines of a similar size:
- Toyota Camry: S$841.31
- Toyota Alphard: S$764.82
- Toyota Vellfire: S$764.82
- Honda Odyssey: S$811.71
- Mitsubishi Outlander: S$861.03
- Audi RS 3 Sedan: S$1,310.08
Their average lowest price is S$892.30. The CX-8, at S$742.90, sits 17% below that, and none of the six is cheaper to insure for this driver. The Mazda car insurance page lists other Mazdas.
The costs only you can price
Some costs depend so much on the owner that no single figure fits.
- Parking: season parking where you live and work, plus malls and kerbside. Check your own block's rates before you buy.
- Petrol: set by your mileage and the pump price.
- ERP: set by where and when you drive.
- Servicing and wear: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres, brakes and the battery come round in time. On a used car, ask what servicing has been done.
- Depreciation: on a used car this turns on what you pay and how many COE years remain.
The yearly figures in one place
