For the Mazda CX-3, where you buy your insurance matters a great deal. On our price page, the dearest insurer's lowest plan is 154% above the lowest premium. This page sets out that spread and the other costs we can show: road tax and the COE.
The CX-3 has no entry on the new-car list now, so you would be buying used. All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not your quote.
Versions on our form
Our quote form lists three:
- CX-3 1.5 AT CLASSIC I3.5: 1,496cc
- CX-3 2.0: 1,998cc
- CX-3 XD TOURING 1.5 A/T DIESEL TURBO: 1,498cc
The figures below are for the 1.5 AT CLASSIC I3.5, the version most insurers quote. There is no list price, as the model is not on the new-car list. The 2.0 has a larger engine and pays more road tax.
COE
For the CX-3 1.5 AT CLASSIC I3.5, with a 1,496cc engine, the category depends on power. The price page's COE section says it needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest. On a used car, check how long the COE has left before you agree a price.
Road tax
For a 1,496cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$681.90 a year, before any age surcharge. The 2.0 and the diesel have different engines, so check those on the road tax page.
The surcharge for older cars:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Insurance and the size of the gap
The Mazda CX-3 price page prices this case:
- Car: CX-3 1.5 AT CLASSIC I3.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
14 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$586.41. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,489.39. That is S$902.98 more, or 154% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
That is a wide gap. The same driver, in the same car, could pay S$902.98 more by not comparing. Two insurers that price cars online have no online price for the CX-3 yet.
Excess
The excess is what you pay on each claim. Ten of the 22 plans carry S$600. Two ask S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three ask S$2,500, one asks S$3,000 and one has no excess.
Next to a lowest premium under S$600, a S$2,500 or S$3,000 excess is large. A small repair may cost less than the excess, which means you would pay for it yourself. Weigh that against any saving on the premium.
How the price changes
The price page reprices the car with one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,026.78, S$440.37 more
- 20% NCD: S$987.63, S$401.22 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,026.78, S$440.37 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
- Car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less
No NCD costs the most: the lowest price is 75% higher. Even 20% NCD leaves it S$401.22 above the base case. The younger driver pays the same as no NCD. The 65-year-old pays the same as the 40-year-old.
Car age matters much less. A new car adds S$17.66 and an 8-year-old one saves S$41.41. These are lowest prices only.
So two things drive what you pay for a CX-3: your NCD, and which insurer you choose. Both can move the price by hundreds of dollars. If you hold a full discount from another car, it carries across; have proof of it ready.
Against similar cars
The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Hyundai Kona: S$721.59
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
They average S$701.70. The CX-3 costs 16% less, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Sienta comes closest. Other Mazda models are on the Mazda car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across the market.
Costs that depend on you
These vary by owner, so we give no figures:
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus work and errands.
- Fuel: depends on how far you drive and the pump price. One version on the form is a diesel turbo.
- ERP: depends on your routes and times.
- Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service record and what is due next.
- Depreciation: depends on the price you pay and the COE years left.
