The Mazda Biante is a used buy in Singapore today; the new-car list has no entry for it. For anyone weighing one up, this page sets out the yearly costs we can show with figures: road tax, car insurance and the COE category.
The headline on insurance is good for a full-NCD driver. Fifteen insurers price the Biante online, and it costs less to insure than all six similar cars on its price page. Insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026.
The version on our form
Our quote form lists one version:
- Biante 2.0: 1,998cc
There is no list price to show. Every figure below is for the 2.0. Check the engine size on the car's papers matches before you rely on these numbers.
COE
The price page's COE section says the Biante 2.0, with a 1,998cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE.
Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. COE results change each round; see the COE page for the latest. On a used car, find out when the COE expires. That decides how long you can keep the car, and it weighs heavily on its value.
Road tax
For a 1,998cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge. For a driver with a full NCD, that is more than the lowest insurance premium.
The surcharge on older cars:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Look up the car's registration date to see which step applies. The road tax page has other engine sizes.
Insurance for the example driver
The Mazda Biante price page prices this case:
- Car: Biante 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
15 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$721.59. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,474.41. That is S$752.82 more, or 104% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Only one insurer that prices cars online has no online price for the Biante yet. So nearly the whole market is in the comparison, and the spread above shows why it is worth going through it. For the same driver and car, the lowest premium and the dearest insurer's lowest plan are S$752.82 apart.
Excess
The excess is what you pay on each claim. Of the 23 plans on this page, ten carry S$600. Three ask S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three ask S$2,500, one asks S$3,000 and one has no excess.
That is a wide spread. Two plans close on premium can be far apart on what a claim costs you. Line up both figures before you choose.
How the price changes
The price page reprices the car with one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,104.77, S$383.18 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,104.77, S$383.18 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,104.77, S$383.18 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$721.59, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$742.90, S$21.31 more
- Car 8 years old: S$660.69, S$60.90 less
No NCD costs the most: the lowest price is 53% higher. The younger driver comes to the same figure. The 65-year-old pays the same as the base driver. An 8-year-old Biante is S$60.90 cheaper to insure than the 3-year-old car on the page.
These are lowest prices only. Once the NCD falls, a different insurer is lowest, so the order on the page will change for you. Compare with your own details.
If more than one person in your household will drive the car, ask for quotes with each one named. The younger-driver row shows how much one driver can move the price.
Against similar cars
The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Lexus RX: S$972.39
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Toyota Voxy: S$793.75
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
They average S$867.25. The Biante costs 17% less, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Harrier and the Voxy come closest. Other Mazda models are on the Mazda car insurance page.
Costs that depend on you
These vary by owner, so we give no figures:
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus school, work and mall parking.
- Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and times.
- Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service record and what is due next.
- Depreciation: depends on the price you pay and the COE years left.
