What a Mazda 8 costs to keep on the road in Singapore

Mazda 8 2.3 costs in Singapore: Category B COE, road tax for a 2,261cc engine and insurance prices from 15 insurers, dated October 2026.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Mazda 8 is a used-market car in Singapore now, with no entry on the new-car list. If you are thinking of buying one, the yearly costs worth knowing are road tax and insurance. This page sets out both, along with the COE category, using only the figures our price page and LTA's formula give.

Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare and budget. They are not your quote, which will depend on your own age, record and car.

The version on our form

Our quote form lists one version:

  • Mazda 8 2.3: 2,261cc

There is no list price. Every figure below is for the 2.3. Check that the engine size on the car's papers matches before you rely on these figures.

COE

The price page's COE section says the Mazda 8 2.3, at 2,261cc, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE.

Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. That figure changes every round; the COE page has the latest. With a used car, the COE life left decides how long you can keep it before you renew or deregister. It also shapes what the car is worth.

Road tax

For a 2,261cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,518.26 a year, before any age surcharge. For the example driver, that is more than the lowest insurance premium. So road tax is the larger fixed yearly bill here.

The surcharge on older cars:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The registration date tells you which step, if any, applies. The road tax page covers other engine sizes.

Insurance for the example driver

The Mazda 8 price page prices this case:

  • Car: Mazda 8 2.3, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

15 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$742.90. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,586.46. That is S$843.56 more, or 114% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

So the dearest is more than twice the lowest. Only one insurer that prices cars online has no online price for the Mazda 8 yet, which gives you a broad field to compare.

Excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. Of the 23 plans on this page, ten carry S$600. Three ask S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three ask S$2,500, one asks S$3,000 and one has no excess.

When you compare, set the excess next to the premium. A plan with a high excess may cost you more in a year you claim, even if its premium is lower.

How the price changes

The price page reprices the car with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,123.15, S$380.25 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,123.15, S$380.25 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,123.15, S$380.25 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$742.90, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less

No NCD costs the most: the lowest price is 51% higher. The younger driver comes to the same figure. The 65-year-old pays the same as the base driver.

An 8-year-old Mazda 8 is S$76.11 cheaper to insure than the 3-year-old car on the page. Since any Mazda 8 you buy now is used, that row may be the better guide. A new car, by contrast, costs a little more to insure.

These are lowest prices only. Once the NCD drops, a different insurer is lowest. If several people in your household will drive the car, ask for quotes with each named, as the younger-driver row shows how much a driver can move the price.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:

They average S$805.99. The Mazda 8 costs 8% less, and none of the six is cheaper to insure; the Harrier matches it. The Alphard and the Vellfire are close behind. Other Mazda models are on the Mazda car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

These vary by owner, so we give no figures:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus school, work and mall parking.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service history and what is due next.
  • Depreciation: depends on the price you pay and the COE years left.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
