20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Mazda 6 SASE 2.5 R (A) is listed on our quote form under its own name. If you are looking at one on the used market, or already own one, this page sets out the yearly costs we can show. They are road tax and car insurance, plus the COE category.

There is no entry for it on the new-car list. Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide to the size of each cost and what changes it, not a quote.

The version on our form

Our quote form lists one version:

  • Mazda 6 SASE 2.5 R (A): 2,488cc

There is no list price to show. All figures below are for this version. Check that the car you are offered has the same 2,488cc engine on its papers.

COE

The price page's COE section says this car, with a 2,488cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE.

Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. COE results change each round; the COE page has the latest. On a used car, look at the COE expiry date before anything else. It sets how long the car can stay on the road before you renew or deregister it.

Road tax

For a 2,488cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,784.52 a year, before any age surcharge. That is well above the lowest insurance premium on the page. For a driver with a full NCD, it is the bigger of the two yearly bills.

The surcharge on older cars:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Check the car's registration date to see which step applies. The road tax page has other engine sizes if you are comparing.

Insuring the SASE

The Mazda 6 SASE price page prices this case:

  • Car: Mazda 6 SASE 2.5 R (A), registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

13 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$742.90. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,504.15. That is S$761.25 more, or 102% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Three insurers that price cars online have no online price for the SASE yet. The 13 that do give a wide spread, so a comparison is worth the time.

Excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. Ten of the 19 plans carry S$600. Three ask S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. One has no excess, and none goes above S$800.

That tight band means the premium carries most of the weight when you compare. Still, the cover each plan gives can differ, so read the details of any plan you shortlist.

How the price changes

The price page reprices the car with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,107.95, S$365.05 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,107.95, S$365.05 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,107.95, S$365.05 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$742.90, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less

No NCD costs the most: the lowest price is 49% higher. The younger driver comes to the same figure. The 65-year-old pays the same as the base driver. An 8-year-old car is S$76.11 cheaper to insure.

These are lowest prices only. Once the NCD drops, a different insurer comes out lowest. So the plan that is lowest for the example driver may not be the one that is lowest for you.

If you are switching from another car, your NCD carries across. Have proof of it ready when you ask for quotes, since it is the biggest single factor in the list above.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:

They average S$892.30. The SASE costs 17% less, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Alphard and the Vellfire come closest. Other Mazda models are on the Mazda car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

These vary by owner, so we give no figures:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus work and weekend parking.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service record and what is due next.
  • Depreciation: depends on the price you pay and the COE years left.
