Lexus RX300 2WD in Singapore, what it costs to keep each year

Lexus RX300 (2WD) costs in Singapore: road tax for a 1,998cc engine, Category B COE and insurance prices that rise about half without an NCD.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Owning a Lexus RX300 in Singapore comes down to a few fixed yearly bills, plus the costs that depend on how you use it. This page covers the fixed ones we can show with figures: road tax and car insurance. It also gives the COE category from our price page.

The RX300 has no entry on the new-car list now, so you would be buying used. Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide to the size of each cost and what changes it, not a quote for you.

The version on our form

Our quote form lists one version:

  • RX300 (2WD): 1,998cc

There is no list price to give. All figures below are for the RX300 (2WD). If the car you are offered has a different engine size on its papers, these figures will not apply to it.

COE

The price page's COE section says the RX300 (2WD), with a 1,998cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE.

Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. That figure changes every round; the COE page has the latest. For a used car, the COE expiry date tells you how long you can keep it before you must renew or deregister.

Road tax

For a 1,998cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge on older cars:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Look at the registration date to see which step, if any, applies. The road tax page covers other engines.

Insuring the RX300

The Lexus RX300 price page prices this case:

  • Car: RX300 (2WD), registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

13 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$972.39. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,078.39. That is S$1,106.00 more, or 114% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

So the dearest lowest plan is more than twice the lowest premium. Three insurers that price cars online have no online price for the RX300 yet.

Excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. Nine of the 19 plans carry S$600. Three ask S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. One asks S$2,500, and one has no excess.

So most plans here sit between S$500 and S$800. The one at S$2,500 is the plan to check closely. If it also carries the lowest premium on your shortlist, weigh what a claim would cost you before you choose it.

How the premium moves

The price page reprices the car with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,472.76, S$500.37 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,471.96, S$499.57 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,472.76, S$500.37 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,055.96, S$83.57 more
  • New car, registered this year: S$955.71, S$16.68 less
  • Car 8 years old: S$900.79, S$71.60 less

No NCD costs the most, adding 51% to the lowest price. A 20% NCD barely helps, at S$1,471.96. The younger driver lands on the same figure as no NCD. The 65-year-old pays S$83.57 more than the base driver.

On car age, the base case is the dearest of the three. A new car and an 8-year-old car both come in lower. These are lowest prices only, and other plans on the page may shift by different amounts.

For an RX300 owner, the gap between 50% NCD and anything less is the main thing to know. If you are moving from another car with a full discount, it carries across. Have proof of it ready when you ask for quotes.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six similar cars, at the same driver and car age:

They average S$865.57. The RX300 costs 12% more. Five of the six are cheaper to insure; only the BMW 3 Series costs more. Other Lexus models are on the Lexus car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

These vary between owners, so we give no figures:

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus work and weekend parking. Check your own car park's rates.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the time of day.
  • Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service record and what is due next.
  • Depreciation: depends on the price paid and the COE life left.
