The Lexus IS appears on our quote form with many engine sizes, from 1,988cc to 3,454cc. On the used market today, the version you pick shapes your yearly bills. This page sets out what we can show for the IS 300 2.0, the version most insurers quote.
There is no IS on the new-car list now. All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare; they are not a quote.
The IS versions on our form
Our quote form lists seven:
- IS 200: 1,988cc
- IS 250: 2,491cc
- IS 250 C: 2,491cc
- IS 300: 2,996cc
- IS 300 2.0: 1,998cc
- IS 300 2.5: 2,494cc
- IS 350: 3,454cc
Note that "IS 300" covers three different engine sizes. Check the car's papers for the engine size before you use any figure. With no new-car list entry, there is no list price to show.
COE
The price page's COE section says the IS 300 2.0, with a 1,998cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE.
Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has the latest. On a used IS, find out when the COE expires; the time left shapes its value.
Road tax
For a 1,998cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge. The versions with larger engines, from the IS 250 up to the IS 350, pay more. The road tax page works out each one.
The age surcharge, once the car is past 10 years:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Insurance for the base case
The Lexus IS price page prices this case:
- Car: IS 300 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
14 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$912.80. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,902.08, which is S$989.28 more, or 108% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Only two insurers that price cars online have no online price for the IS yet, so most of the market is in view.
Excess
The excess is your share of each claim. The page lists 22 plans. Ten carry S$600. Two ask S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three ask S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess. A plan's premium and excess belong together when you compare. A premium that looks low may sit beside one of the S$2,500 or S$3,000 excesses, which you would pay on every claim. If you would rather pay a little more each year and less when you claim, look further down the list.
What moves the price
The price page reprices the car with one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,406.18, S$493.38 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,406.18, S$493.38 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,406.18, S$493.38 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$997.50, S$84.70 more
- New car, registered this year: S$910.63, S$2.17 less
- Car 8 years old: S$868.84, S$43.96 less
No NCD costs the most, adding 54% to the lowest price. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The 65-year-old pays S$84.70 more than the base driver.
Car age barely matters at the bottom of the market. A new car is S$2.17 cheaper, and an 8-year-old one S$43.96 cheaper. These are lowest prices only. The lowest insurer changes across the rows, so the plan that is lowest for you may not be the one that is lowest for the example driver.
If an older or younger family member will be the main driver, get quotes in their name. Both moves change the price on this car.
Against similar cars
The price page compares six similar cars at the same driver and car age:
- BMW 3 Series: S$1,009.11
- Mercedes-Benz GLC: S$925.60
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Toyota Voxy: S$793.75
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
They average S$865.57. The IS costs 5% more. Four of the six are cheaper to insure. The BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz GLC cost more. Other Lexus models are on the Lexus car insurance page.
Costs that depend on you
These depend on the owner, so we give no figures:
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus work and town.
- Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and times.
- Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service record and what work is coming up.
- Depreciation: depends on the price paid and the COE years left.
