The Lexus RX is a premium SUV made in Japan. This piece sets it beside the six similar cars on its price page, rival by rival, on what each costs to insure. The RX's own list price, COE and road tax come first.
Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare, not predict your own premium.
The RX on its own figures
Versions on sale. The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has four, all SUVs made in Japan and all petrol-electric. As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included that day:
- RX 350h Hybrid 2.5 Executive: 2,487cc, 247bhp, S$450,800
- RX 350h Hybrid 2.5 Luxury: 2,487cc, 247bhp, S$482,800
- RX 450h+ Plug-in Hybrid 2.5 Luxury: 2,487cc, 304bhp, S$530,800
- RX 500h Hybrid 2.4 F Sport: 2,393cc, 366bhp, S$550,800
Versions on the quote form. There are eleven, from the RX 200 T (1,998cc) to the RX 350 and RX 450h (3,456cc). The insurance figures here are for the RX 200 T, the version most insurers quote. It is an older version, not one on sale now.
COE. With a 1,998cc engine, above 1,600cc, the RX 200 T needs a Category B COE. It closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has later rounds.
Road tax. For the 1,998cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge. The surcharge adds 10% over 10 years, 20% over 11, 30% over 12, 40% over 13 and 50% over 14. The RX versions on sale have larger engines, so their road tax is higher; the road tax page works it out.
Insurance. The Lexus RX price page prices a driver aged 40, married, in an office job, driving 10 to 19 years. The car is 3 years old, private use, comprehensive cover. The driver has a 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims and uses an authorised workshop. 14 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$972.39 a year, with a S$2,500 excess on that plan. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,935, which is S$962.61 more, or 99% on top. Prices include 9% GST. Two insurers on the panel have no online price for the RX yet.
The rivals below are priced for the same driver and car age, each at the version most insurers quote.
BMW 3 Series
The BMW 3 Series has a 1,998cc engine, the same size as the RX 200 T. Its lowest price is S$1,009.11, from 15 insurers.
It is the only rival here that costs more to insure than the RX at the lowest price. One more insurer prices it.
Mercedes-Benz GLC
The Mercedes-Benz GLC has a 1,991cc engine. Its lowest price is S$925.60, from 14 insurers.
That puts it a little under the RX, with the same number of insurers.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has a 1,991cc engine. Its lowest price is S$861.03, from 14 insurers.
It costs less to insure than the RX at the lowest price.
BMW 5 Series
The BMW 5 Series has a 1,998cc engine. Its lowest price is also S$861.03, from 15 insurers.
Level with the E-Class, and below the RX.
Toyota Voxy
The Toyota Voxy has a 1,797cc engine. Its lowest price is S$793.75, from 14 insurers.
On insurance it comes in well below the RX, with as many insurers.
Toyota Harrier
The Toyota Harrier has a 1,986cc engine. Its lowest price is S$742.90, from 15 insurers.
It is the lowest of the six to insure for this driver.

- 20% NCD: S$1,471.96, which is S$499.57 more

Who each suits on cost
- Lexus RX: near the top of this group on insurance. The low premium comes with a high excess, so weigh both.
- BMW 3 Series: the dearest of the group to insure, by a small margin.
- Mercedes-Benz GLC: close to the RX, slightly lower.
- E-Class and 5 Series: level with each other, in the middle of the group.
- Toyota Voxy and Harrier: the lowest insurance figures of the seven.
For all of them, parking, petrol or charging, ERP, servicing and depreciation turn on how you use the car. Other Lexus models are on the Lexus car insurance page.
