A Jaguar XJ in Singapore is a used-car decision now: the new-car list has no entry for it. If you are looking at one, the asking price is only the start. This page covers the yearly costs we can put figures on, so you can see the full picture before you commit.
We look at the COE category, road tax and car insurance. The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price will depend on your details.
The XJ versions on our form
Three versions appear on our quote form:
- XJ 2.0: 1,999cc
- XJ 2.7 V6: 2,720cc
- XJ 3.0D 600: 2,993cc
The insurance figures below are for the XJ 2.0, the version most insurers quote. With no new-car list entry, there is no list price to show.
The engine size of the car you are looking at decides which figures apply. The 2.7 and 3.0 versions carry higher road tax than the 2.0.
COE
The price page's COE section says the XJ 2.0, with a 1,999cc engine, is above 1,600cc and needs a Category B COE.
Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has later results as they come. When you inspect a used XJ, check its COE expiry date. It tells you how long you can keep the car before a renewal or deregistration decision.
Road tax
At 1,999cc, LTA's formula puts road tax at S$1,210.92 a year, before any age surcharge. For the larger engines, the road tax page gives the figure.
Cars more than 10 years old pay a surcharge on top:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Insurance for one example driver
The Jaguar XJ price page prices this case:
- Car: XJ 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
13 insurers price it for that driver. The lowest premium is S$1,067.52. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,418.84. That is S$1,351.32 more, or 127% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
That spread means the same driver could pay more than twice as much by not comparing. Three insurers that price cars online have no online price for the XJ yet.
Excess levels
The excess is the slice of each claim that you pay. There are 21 plans on this page. Nine carry S$600. Two ask S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three plans ask S$2,500 and one S$3,000, while one has no excess. When premiums are close, the excess is often what sets them apart.
When one detail changes
The price page shows the lowest premium after a single change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,431.70, S$364.18 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,431.70, S$364.18 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,431.70, S$364.18 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,235.01, S$167.49 more
- New car, registered this year: S$1,053.16, S$14.36 less
- Car 8 years old: S$980.50, S$87.02 less
Here the NCD is the big lever. Without it, the lowest price is 34% higher. A 27-year-old driver with 30% NCD lands on the same figure as the no-NCD case. The 65-year-old pays more than the base driver.
The car's age pulls the other way. Both a new XJ and an 8-year-old XJ are cheaper to insure than the 3-year-old car on this page. These are lowest prices only, and other plans may move by different amounts.
What this means in practice: if you hold a full NCD, keep it in mind when you switch cars, as it carries across. If you do not, your lowest price may start from a different insurer than the example.
How it sits against similar cars
The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Lexus RX: S$972.39
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Toyota Voxy: S$793.75
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The XJ costs 23% more. Every one of the six is cheaper to insure at these settings. The Jaguar car insurance page covers the rest of the range.
Running costs that vary
These depend on the owner, so we give no figures:
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block, condo or landed home, and parking at work.
- Fuel: depends on distance and pump prices, and on which engine the car has.
- ERP: depends on your routes and when you drive.
- Servicing and repairs: a used car's history matters. Ask for records and what is due next.
- Depreciation: shaped by the price you pay and the COE time left.
Summary of yearly costs we can show
