Jaguar S-Type 2.5 SE in Singapore, what it costs each year

Yearly costs of a Jaguar S-Type 2.5 SE in Singapore: road tax with the age surcharge, Category B COE and dated car insurance examples.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Jaguar S-Type is not on the new-car list, so in Singapore it is a car you would buy used or already own. Either way, the useful question is what it costs each year. This page goes through road tax, insurance and the COE category, using the figures our price page and LTA's formula give.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver and car, read on 20 October 2026. They help you see the shape of the costs. They are not a quote.

Which S-Type the figures cover

Our quote form has one version:

  • S-Type 2.5 SE: 2,497cc

There is no list price to give, since the model has no new-car list entry. Everything below is for the 2.5 SE.

The COE

The price page's COE section says the S-Type 2.5 SE, with its 2,497cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100. The figure changes every round; the COE page shows the newest results. On any used car, the COE years remaining matter as much as the sticker price. A car near the end of its COE may need a renewal decision soon after you buy it.

Road tax and the age surcharge

For a 2,497cc engine, LTA's formula sets road tax at S$1,795.08 a year, before any age surcharge.

If the car you are looking at is more than 10 years old, the surcharge applies on top:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

So check the registration date on the car's papers. It tells you which step, if any, applies. The road tax page has the base figure for other engines.

Insurance: the example driver

The Jaguar S-Type price page uses these details:

  • Car: S-Type 2.5 SE, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

11 insurers price the car on those details. The lowest premium is S$1,068.68. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$2,059.74, which is S$991.06 more, or 93% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That gap is close to double. Five insurers that price cars online have no online price for the S-Type. For one, it is because the model is not on its online quote.

Note that the page prices a car registered 3 years ago. An S-Type on the road today is likely to be older, so the car-age row below is the more useful guide.

The excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. Nine of the 18 plans on this page carry S$600. Three ask S$800, three S$2,500, two S$500 and one S$3,000. The plans with the higher excess can look cheap until you claim, so read both figures.

How the price changes

The price page shows the lowest premium after one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,353.00, S$284.32 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,353.00, S$284.32 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,353.00, S$284.32 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,068.68, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$1,100.34, S$31.66 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$977.95, S$90.73 less

The NCD makes the biggest difference: without it, the lowest price is 27% higher. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The 65-year-old pays the same as the 40-year-old. An 8-year-old car is cheaper to insure than a 3-year-old one at this lowest price. These are lowest prices, and other plans may move differently.

For an S-Type, then, your own NCD is the figure to check first. If yours is lower than 50%, ask each insurer to price your real discount rather than relying on the base case.

Similar cars for the same driver

The price page compares six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$892.30. The S-Type costs 20% more. Five of the six are cheaper to insure, the Audi RS 3 Sedan being the exception. Only 3 insurers price that Audi, against 15 for each of the others. More Jaguars are on the Jaguar car insurance page.

Costs that depend on how you use it

We give no figures for these:

  • Parking: season parking at home and at work, plus parking when you are out.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you go and on pump prices.
  • ERP: depends on your usual routes and times.
  • Servicing and repairs: an older car tends to need more parts over time. Ask what has been replaced and what is due.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay and how much COE life is left.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Jaguar S-Type 2.5 SE, with dates as shown:
