Owning a Jaguar X-Type 2.0D in Singapore and what it costs

Jaguar X-Type 2.0D costs in Singapore: road tax for a 1,998cc engine, Category B COE and a lowest insurance price that held steady across drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Jaguar X-Type is a car few insurers price online in Singapore, and that shapes much of what it costs to keep. If you own one or are thinking of buying one, this page sets out the yearly costs we can show: road tax and car insurance, along with its COE category.

There is no X-Type on the new-car list, so any car you buy now is used. The insurance prices below are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show how the market looks, not what you will be quoted.

The version we price

Our quote form lists one version:

  • X-Type 2.0D: 1,998cc

With no new-car list entry, there is no list price here. All the figures below are for the 2.0D.

COE category

The price page's COE section says the X-Type 2.0D, with a 1,998cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100. COE results change every round, and the COE page has the latest. For a used car, check when the current COE runs out. That date has a large bearing on what the car is worth to you.

Road tax

For a 1,998cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge rises with age once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Look up the registration date of the car you are considering to see where it falls. The road tax page covers the base sums for other engines.

Insurance for the example driver

The Jaguar X-Type price page prices this case:

  • Car: X-Type 2.0D, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

Only 7 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$1,201.06. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,903.96. That is S$702.90 more, or 59% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

Nine insurers that price cars online have no online price for the X-Type yet. That is a large share of the market. If seven quotes is not enough for you, ask insurers that do not price it online whether they will quote by other means.

Excess

The excess is the amount of each claim you pay yourself. On this page, seven of the 13 plans carry S$600. Three carry S$800, two S$750 and one S$500. No plan here goes above S$800, so the excesses sit in a narrower band than on many cars. Still, compare them plan by plan, since the difference between S$500 and S$800 comes out of your own pocket if you claim.

A price that did not move

The price page reprices the car with one detail changed. Here, every row gives the same lowest price:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,201.06, the same
  • 20% NCD: S$1,201.06, the same
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,201.06, the same
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,201.06, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$1,201.06, the same
  • Car 8 years old: S$1,201.06, the same

The same insurer is lowest in every row, at the same price. That is unusual. It means the lowest price on the page does not shift with NCD, driver age or car age. Other plans on the page may still change with those details, and the lowest price is only one figure. So if your own NCD or age differs from the example, the lowest premium may hold, but the rest of the field may look different.

For an owner with little or no NCD, this is worth knowing. On most cars, losing the discount adds a large sum to the lowest price. On the X-Type, at these settings, it did not.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The X-Type costs 38% more, and all six are cheaper to insure. Each of them is priced by at least 14 insurers, against 7 for the X-Type. For the rest of the make, see the Jaguar car insurance page.

Costs set by the owner

These vary too much to give one figure:

  • Parking: season parking where you live, plus work and weekend parking.
  • Fuel: depends on distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Servicing and repairs: for an older model, ask about parts and the service record before you buy.
  • Depreciation: tied to what you pay and the COE life remaining.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Jaguar X-Type 2.0D, dated as stated:

  • Road tax: S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$1,201.06 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD or a car 8 years old: also from S$1,201.06
