What a Ford Galaxy costs to own and insure in Singapore today

The Ford Galaxy 2.0 in Singapore: Category B COE, road tax of S$1,210.92 a year before surcharge, and dated car insurance examples.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

A Ford Galaxy with a 2-litre or larger engine sits in a higher bracket for two Singapore costs: road tax and the COE category. This page sets out those costs, then car insurance, which can vary more than either.

Every insurance figure is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium depends on your details. Use these to see how prices line up, not as a quote.

Galaxy versions on our form

The Galaxy is not on the new-car list, so there is no list price, power or body type here. Our quote form lists three versions:

  • Galaxy 2.0: 1,999cc
  • Galaxy 2.3: 2,295cc
  • Galaxy 2.3 GHIA (A): 2,261cc

The price page uses the 2.0, the version most of our insurers quote. The figures below are for it.

COE: Category B

The Galaxy 2.0's 1,999cc engine is above 1,600cc, so it needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026, 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.

A Galaxy on the road already holds its COE. The category becomes a live cost again if you renew when the term ends. The COE page shows each round as it closes.

Road tax

LTA's formula sets road tax by engine size. For 1,999cc, it is S$1,210.92 a year before any age surcharge, checked on 2026-10-19.

Older cars also pay a surcharge once past 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The 2.3 versions have bigger engines, so their road tax is higher still. The road tax page has the figure for each size.

Insurance for the example driver

The Ford Galaxy price page prices one profile:

  • Car: Galaxy 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

14 insurers price the Galaxy on that profile. The lowest premium is S$742.90 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,909.75. That is S$1,166.85 more, or 157% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The lowest price stands apart: the next one up is S$1,026.32. After that, prices climb steadily through the list, so the order matters more than any single figure. Only two insurers on our panel show no online price for the Galaxy.

Excess on the plans

The excess is what you pay on each claim. On this page:

  • S$600: the most common level
  • S$500 or S$800: on several plans
  • S$2,500 or S$3,000: on a few plans, some of them low in the price list
  • S$0: on one plan, which is among the dearer ones

A plan with a low premium and a S$3,000 excess may cost more than it looks if you claim. Read the two columns together.

Some prices are estimates. Each one shows when its insurer's table was read.

What changes the price

The price page changes one thing and shows the lowest premium that results:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,173.85, S$430.95 more, a 58% rise
  • 20% NCD: S$1,173.85, the same
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,173.85, S$430.95 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$742.90, unchanged
  • A new car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less

As on most cars, the NCD carries the most weight. With none, or with only 20%, the lowest price goes up by S$430.95. A younger driver pays that same figure. An older driver pays nothing extra. The older car is S$76.11 cheaper at the lowest price. Remember that these are lowest prices; other plans may change by different amounts.

Compared with similar cars

Six similar cars are priced on the page, for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The Galaxy is 14% below it, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Harrier matches it exactly. Other Fords are on the Ford car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models from every make.

Costs that depend on you

These have no single figure:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town. Check the season parking rate at your own block before you commit.
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: the gantries on your routes and when you pass them.
  • Servicing and repairs: tyres, brakes, a battery and other parts wear over time. Ask for the full service record.
  • Depreciation: on a used Galaxy, the price you pay against the COE years left.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Ford Galaxy 2.0:

  • Road tax: S$1,210.92 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, example driver: from S$742.90 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,173.85

For reference, Category B COE closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
