Ford Focus GHIA yearly costs in Singapore, insurance included

The Ford Focus GHIA 1.6 (A) 4DR in Singapore: road tax, COE category and car insurance examples from 20 October 2026, with similar cars.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Focus GHIA is one of several Focus names on our quote form, here as a four-door 1.6. It is no longer on the new-car list, so this page is for anyone who owns one or is pricing a used one. It sets out what we can show on road tax, COE and insurance, and points to the costs that depend on you.

Insurance figures are examples for one stated driver on 20 October 2026. Your own premium will depend on your details, so use these to compare, not as a quote.

The version on the price page

Our quote form prices the Focus GHIA 1.6 (A) 4DR, with a 1,596cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote. There is no new-car list entry, so this page gives no list price, power or body details beyond that name.

COE for the GHIA

With its 1,596cc engine, the GHIA's COE category depends on power:

  • Category A if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. That closed at S$130,001 in the October 2026, 1st round.
  • Category B if its power is more. That closed at S$130,100 in the same round.

A GHIA on the road today already holds a COE. The category matters if you renew when the term ends. Results move every round, and the COE page shows the latest.

Road tax

At 1,596cc, LTA's formula gives road tax of S$740.56 a year, before any age surcharge. The figure was checked on 2026-10-19.

Older cars pay more each year once they pass the ten-year mark:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

So the registration date is worth checking before you buy. A car that is about to cross a band will cost more to tax the following year. The road tax page has the sums for other engine sizes.

Insurance for the profile we price

The Ford Focus GHIA price page uses one set of answers:

  • Car: Focus GHIA 1.6 (A) 4DR, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

13 insurers price the car on those answers. The lowest premium is S$642.42. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,274.75. That is S$632.33 more, or 98% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Put simply, the dearest insurer's lowest plan costs nearly twice the lowest premium. Three insurers on our panel show no online price for the GHIA.

Excess

The excess is your share of each claim. On this page the plans set it at S$0, S$500, S$600, S$750 or S$800. Most use S$600. The plan with no excess sits towards the dearer end of the list, which is one reason to look past the premium alone.

Several prices are marked as estimates. One also includes a promo code. Each carries the date its insurer's table was read.

What makes the premium move

The price page shows the lowest premium when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,012.89, S$370.47 more, a 58% rise
  • 20% NCD: S$1,012.89, the same
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,012.89, S$370.47 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$642.42, unchanged
  • A new car, registered this year: S$660.69, S$18.27 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$586.41, S$56.01 less

Three of the changes land on one figure: no NCD, 20% NCD and the younger driver. That figure is S$370.47 above the example. An older driver sees no change. The car's age matters a little, with the older car the cheaper one. These are lowest prices only. Each plan can move in its own way.

Similar cars side by side

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$724.93. The GHIA comes in 11% below it. Only the Sienta is cheaper to insure. The Corolla Altis and the Freed match the GHIA exactly. Other Fords are on the Ford car insurance page. For a wider ranking, see the cheapest cars to insure.

Costs that change with your use

We give no figure for these, because they differ from owner to owner:

  • Parking: season parking where you live, plus parking at work and when you go out. Check the rate at your block.
  • Petrol: how far you drive and what the pump charges.
  • ERP: the routes you take and the hours you travel.
  • Servicing and repairs: a car of this age needs wear parts in time, such as tyres, brakes and a battery. Ask what the last owner had done.
  • Depreciation: set by the price you pay and the COE years left.
