Ford Focus ST 2.5 costs in Singapore, from road tax to insurance

The Ford Focus ST 2.5 in Singapore: a Category B COE, high road tax and a very wide spread of car insurance prices, dated October 2026.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Focus ST 2.5 carries a much bigger engine than the everyday Focus, and in Singapore that shows up in two bills: road tax and the COE category. Insurance, though, tells a less obvious story. This page goes through each cost we can show.

The premiums are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote. What you pay depends on your own details.

The version priced

The price page and our quote form use the Focus ST 2.5, with a 2,522cc engine. Most of our insurers quote it. The ST is not on the new-car list, so there is no list price, power figure or body type here.

A Category B COE

The engine is above 1,600cc, so the Focus ST 2.5 needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026, 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.

An ST already on the road has its COE. You face the cost again only if you renew it at the end of the term. Bidding results move each round, and the COE page has the latest.

Road tax on a 2.5-litre engine

Road tax rises steeply with engine size. For the ST's 2,522cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,824.40 a year before any age surcharge. This was checked on 2026-10-19.

That is the single largest yearly cost we can show for this car. It also grows as the car ages past 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

If you are weighing the ST against a smaller-engined car, the road tax page shows the figures side by side.

Insurance for the example driver

The Ford Focus ST price page prices one case:

  • Car: Focus ST 2.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

12 insurers price it for that driver. The lowest premium is S$586.41 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,661.13. That is S$2,074.72 more, or 354% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That is a very wide spread. The lowest premium sits far below the rest: the next price on the list is S$984.23, and most of the rest are above S$1,221.72. So the order you see when you compare matters a great deal. Four insurers show no online price for the ST.

The excess

Your excess is the amount you pay on each claim. On this page most plans set S$600. Others set S$500, S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one sets S$0. Several of the higher-priced plans also carry the biggest excesses. Check both numbers before you compare.

One price is marked as an estimate. Each price also shows the date its insurer's table was read, so some figures are a few days older than others. A table read on 8 October may have changed since.

What moves the price

The price page changes one detail at a time:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,352.47, S$766.06 more, a 131% rise
  • 20% NCD: S$987.63, S$401.22 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,103.15, S$516.74 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less

The NCD has a huge effect on this car. With none, the lowest price more than doubles. Even at 20% it rises by S$401.22. The younger driver falls in between. Car age and an older driver barely move it. These are the lowest prices only; dearer plans can move by different amounts.

How it compares

The price page sets six similar cars beside the ST, for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$892.30. The ST is 34% below that, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Audi RS 3 Sedan's figure rests on only 3 insurers, against 15 for each of the others. Other Fords are on the Ford car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.

Costs we leave to you

These vary with the owner:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town.
  • Petrol: down to your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: down to your routes and timing.
  • Servicing and repairs: tyres, brakes and other parts wear over time. Ask for the full service record on a used car.
  • Depreciation: what you pay against what is left of the COE.
