What the Ford Focus HTBK 1.6 costs each year in Singapore: road tax, its COE category and dated insurance examples for several drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Thinking about a used Ford Focus hatchback, or wondering what yours costs to keep? This page covers the costs we can show for the Focus HTBK 1.6 in Singapore. It starts with the fixed items, moves on to insurance, and ends with the costs that are yours to set.

One point first. The insurance prices are examples for a single stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide, not a quote, because your own premium depends on your details.

The car being priced

Our quote form lists the Focus HTBK 1.6, with a 1,596cc engine, and most of our insurers quote it. The model is not on the new-car list, so you will find no list price, power figure or body details here.

Fixed costs: COE and road tax

COE

The Focus HTBK 1.6 has a 1,596cc engine, so power decides the category:

  • Category A, if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less: S$130,001 in the October 2026, 1st round
  • Category B, if its power is more: S$130,100 in that round

Your car already carries a COE. The figure becomes relevant again if you choose to renew at the end of its term. Check the COE page for the newest round.

Road tax

Road tax is set by engine size under LTA's formula. For 1,596cc it comes to S$740.56 a year, before any age surcharge, checked on 2026-10-19.

A surcharge is added once the car is more than 10 years old, rising each year:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

If you are comparing cars with other engine sizes, the road tax page lists them.

Insurance: who we priced

The Ford Focus HTBK price page assumes:

  • Car: Focus HTBK 1.6, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

Insurance: what the prices show

For that driver, 13 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$642.42. At the other end, the insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,274.75. The gap is S$632.33, or 98% on top of the lowest. Every price includes 9% GST.

Three insurers on our panel have no online price for this car. Their reasons are listed on the price page, so you can see why each one is missing from the list.

Excess. This is the part of a claim you pay. Here it is S$600 on most plans, with others at S$500, S$750 or S$800. One plan has an excess of S$0, but it is among the dearer premiums. Compare the excess and the premium together.

Estimates and dates. Some prices are marked as estimates, and one includes a promo code. Each shows the date its insurer's table was read.

When one detail changes

The price page keeps everything else fixed and changes one thing:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,012.89, up S$370.47, or 58%
  • 20% NCD: S$1,012.89, the same rise
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,012.89, up S$370.47
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$642.42, no change
  • A new car, registered this year: S$660.69, up S$18.27
  • A car 8 years old: S$586.41, down S$56.01

Your NCD has the strongest effect of anything shown. Lose it, or drop to 20%, and the lowest price rises by more than half. A driver of 27 with three years of licence and 30% NCD pays the same higher figure. Age at the other end, 65, makes no difference. And an older car is slightly cheaper at the lowest price. Bear in mind that each plan reacts in its own way; these are lowest prices only.

Other cars at the same price point

Six similar cars sit on the price page, at the same driver and car age:

Together they average S$724.93. The Focus HTBK sits 11% under that. The Sienta is the only one cheaper to insure, while the Corolla Altis and the Freed tie with the Focus. The Ford car insurance page has the rest of the range, and the cheapest cars to insure page compares across makes.

Costs that are up to you

These have no single figure:

  • Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus what you pay at work and around town.
  • Petrol: based on how much you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: based on your routes and timing.
  • Servicing and repairs: as the car ages, tyres, brakes, a battery and other wear parts come due. Ask to see past service records.
  • Depreciation: based on the price you pay and the COE years remaining.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
