Ford Focus SASE 1.6 in Singapore and the bills that come with it

Insurance examples, road tax and COE category for the Ford Focus SASE 1.6 in Singapore, dated October 2026, with similar cars compared.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Insurance is often the cost that varies most for an older car, so this page on the Ford Focus SASE 1.6 starts there. After that come road tax and the COE, then the costs that depend on how you use the car.

Every premium quoted is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. It shows the pattern of prices, not what you will be charged. Your own price depends on your details.

Which Focus this is

The price page and our quote form use the Focus SASE 1.6, which has a 1,596cc engine. Most of our insurers quote this version. The Focus SASE is not on the new-car list, so there is no list price, power or body type on this page.

The insurance picture

The driver behind the figures

The Ford Focus SASE price page prices this case:

  • Car: Focus SASE 1.6, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

The spread

13 insurers price the car for that driver. The lowest premium is S$642.42 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,274.75. So the gap is S$632.33, or 98% on top. All figures include 9% GST.

In other words, the same car can cost about twice as much to insure depending on which insurer you pick. Three insurers have no online price for it at all.

Excess

The excess is the first part of any claim, and you pay it yourself. Most plans here set it at S$600. Others set S$500, S$750 or S$800. One plan has no excess, at S$0, but its premium is in the upper part of the list. A cheap premium and a low excess do not always come together.

Some prices are estimates, and one includes a promo code. The price page marks them and shows when each insurer's table was read.

Changing one detail

Here is the lowest premium when a single detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,012.89, which is S$370.47 or 58% more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,012.89, the same
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,012.89, S$370.47 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$642.42, the same as the example
  • A new car, registered this year: S$660.69, S$18.27 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$586.41, S$56.01 less

So the record matters more than the car. Without the 50% NCD, the lowest price jumps by S$370.47. A younger driver lands on the same figure. The car's age matters far less: a new car adds S$18.27, and an 8-year-old one takes off S$56.01. If you are choosing between two used examples of different ages, the insurance gap between them is likely to be small next to the NCD effect. These are the lowest prices only; dearer plans may move by more or less.

Against similar cars

The price page prices six similar cars for the same driver and car age:

On average they cost S$724.93 at their lowest price. The Focus SASE is 11% cheaper than that average. One car, the Sienta, costs less to insure. Two, the Corolla Altis and the Freed, cost the same. For other Ford models, see the Ford car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page lines up models from every make.

Road tax

LTA's formula sets road tax by engine size. For 1,596cc, it is S$740.56 a year before any age surcharge. This figure was checked on 2026-10-19.

When a car passes 10 years old, LTA adds a surcharge that grows each year:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page has other engine sizes, which helps if you are comparing models.

COE

Because the Focus SASE 1.6 has a 1,596cc engine, its category depends on power:

  • Category A if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less: S$130,001 in the October 2026, 1st round
  • Category B if its power is more: S$130,100 in the same round

Your car already has a COE. You meet this cost again only if you renew at the end of the term. Bidding results change each round; see the COE page.

What you decide

Some costs depend on your own use, so we give no figure:

  • Parking: season parking at home, whether HDB or condo, and day-to-day parking elsewhere.
  • Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and when you travel.
  • Servicing and repairs: tyres, brakes, a battery and other wear parts on an ageing car. Check what work has been done.
  • Depreciation: the price you pay set against the COE years left.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
