How much a Ford Focus costs to run and insure in Singapore

Ford Focus 1.4 costs in Singapore: road tax, COE category and car insurance examples dated 20 October 2026, plus how the premium moves.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Ford Focus has been sold here in several forms over the years, and many are still on the road. This page is for owners and used-car buyers who want to see what the car costs each year. It deals with the items we can price, one at a time.

Insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you see how the costs compare, but they are not a quote for you.

Versions of the Focus we can quote

The Focus has no entry on the new-car list today, so there is no list price, power or body type on this page. Our quote form has three versions:

  • Focus 1.4: 1,388cc
  • Focus 1.6 (A) Stationwagon: 1,596cc
  • Focus 2.0: 1,999cc

The price page uses the 1.4, which most of our insurers quote. The figures below are for that version unless stated.

COE

For the Focus 1.4 and its 1,388cc engine, the category depends on power:

  • Category A: power of 97kW (130bhp) or less. It closed at S$130,001 in the October 2026, 1st round.
  • Category B: power above that. It closed at S$130,100 in the same round.

A Focus already on the road has its COE. This matters again when the term ends and you decide whether to renew. Each round sets new prices, and the COE page has the latest results.

Road tax by engine size

LTA's formula puts road tax for the 1.4's 1,388cc engine at S$618.56 a year, before any age surcharge. This was checked on 2026-10-19.

The surcharge begins after the tenth year:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The 1.6 Stationwagon and the 2.0 have bigger engines and pay more. The road tax page shows the figure for each engine size.

Car insurance: the example driver

The Ford Focus price page prices one profile:

  • Car: Focus 1.4, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

For that profile, 13 insurers give a price. The lowest is S$586.41. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,566.40, which is S$979.99 more, or 167% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

That is a wide gap for the same car and driver. Three insurers show no online price for the Focus.

Excess levels

Each plan sets an excess, the amount you pay towards every claim. On this page it goes from S$0 up to S$3,000. Most plans use S$600. Some use S$500, S$800 or S$2,500. One of the plans with the highest excess sits near the bottom of the price list. A low premium with a high excess can cost you more if you claim.

Some prices are marked as estimates. Each has an "as at" date showing when its insurer's table was read.

How each change shifts the price

The price page alters one detail and shows the new lowest premium:

  • No NCD (0%): S$989.59, S$403.18 more (69%)
  • 20% NCD: S$987.63, S$401.22 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$989.59, S$403.18 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, no change
  • A new car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less

The NCD is where most of the money goes. Having none, or only 20%, puts the lowest price up by S$401.22 or S$403.18. A younger driver lands at the same level. At the other end, an older driver pays the same, and an 8-year-old car is a little cheaper. These are the lowest prices; dearer plans may move by other amounts.

Compared with similar cars

The price page lists six similar cars at the same driver and car age:

The six average S$749.19 at their lowest price. The Focus is 22% below that, and none of them is cheaper to insure. The Sienta comes closest. You can see other Fords on the Ford car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across all makes.

Costs that rest on you

These vary too much between owners to price:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, and what you pay at work, malls and the roadside.
  • Petrol: the distance you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: the gantries on your routes and the times you pass them.
  • Servicing and repairs: on an older Focus, wear parts such as tyres, brakes and a battery. Ask for the service history.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay and the COE years left on the car.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

  • Road tax: S$618.56 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)

  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$989.59
