If you are looking at a used Citroen DS4, the main yearly costs are road tax and car insurance. Insurance is the dearer of the two, and it varies a lot between insurers. This page sets out both, along with the COE and the costs that depend on you.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote. Your own premium depends on your details.
The car priced
The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now, so there is no list price, power or body type here.
Our quote form prices the Citroen DS4 1.6 THP, with a 1,598cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote.
Car insurance
The standard driver
The Citroen DS4 price page prices:
- Car: DS4 1.6 THP, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
The range of prices
12 insurers price the DS4 for that driver. The lowest premium is S$884.75 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,499.13. That is S$614.38 more, or 69% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Four insurers on our panel have no online price for this model.
The excess
Most plans set a S$600 excess. Two set S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three set S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess.
The highest excesses are five times the usual figure. Compare them with care.
How the price moves
The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,188.49, S$303.74 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,188.49, S$303.74 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,188.49, S$303.74 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,006.54, S$121.79 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$845.65, S$39.10 less
- A car 8 years old: S$871.23, S$13.52 less
No NCD adds 34% at the lowest price. A 20% NCD and a younger driver land on the same figure.
The older driver pays more. Car age works the other way from most cars: a new DS4 and an 8-year-old one are both a little cheaper to insure than the 3-year-old car on the page.
These are lowest prices. Other plans may change by other amounts.
The COE
With a 1,598cc engine, the DS4 1.6 THP needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest.
On a used car, the COE has been paid. What you are buying is the years left on it.
Road tax
For the 1,598cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$741.72 a year. That was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.
From the tenth year, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page has sums for other engines.
Reading the fine print
A quote is more than its price. Check:
- Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Plans allowing any workshop may cost more or less.
- Named drivers: an extra, younger driver can lift the premium.
- NCD protection: an extra some plans offer. A claim can cut the NCD, and the higher premium lasts until it is rebuilt.
- Excess: your share of each claim.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Hyundai Kona: S$721.59
Their average is S$724.93. The DS4 costs 22% more than that, and 5 of the six are cheaper to insure. Only the Mazda 3 costs more.
Other Citroen models are on the Citroen car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.
Before buying a used DS4
Confirm:
- COE expiry: how many years of use remain.
- Road tax: when it falls due, and whether the surcharge applies.
- Your own quote: priced for this car and your details.
- Service record: what has been done and what may be due.
Costs that depend on you
These have no single figure:
- Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus elsewhere.
- Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
- ERP: your routes and hours.
- Parts and servicing: for an older car, ask how parts are sourced and who services it. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due.
- Depreciation: for a used car, mostly the COE years left.
