Citroen C5 in Singapore, road tax, COE and car insurance costs

The Citroen C5 2.0 in Singapore: a Category B COE, road tax for 1,997cc and dated car insurance prices from 14 insurers for one driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Citroen C5 came with several engines, and our quote form lists six versions. It is no longer on the new-car list. This page looks at the 2-litre version most insurers quote, and what it costs to keep each year.

The insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote. Your own premium depends on your details.

Six versions on the form

The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. There is no list price, power or body type on this page.

Our quote form lists:

  • C5 1.6 HDi 110: 1,560cc
  • C5 1.6 D: 1,598cc
  • C5 1.6 THP: 1,598cc
  • C5 2.0: 1,997cc
  • C5 2.0 Confort: 1,997cc
  • C5 V6 HDi 208 FAP BVA: 2,720cc

The figures below are for the C5 2.0, the version most of our insurers quote. Road tax and the COE rule differ for the 1.6 and V6 versions, so check which one you are looking at.

A Category B COE

With a 1,997cc engine, above 1,600cc, the C5 2.0 needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.

That price changes every round; the COE page has the latest. On a used C5, the years left on its COE matter far more than a fresh one's price.

Road tax

For the 1,997cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,208.58 a year. That was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.

On an older car, the surcharge adds to that:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

For the other versions, see the road tax page.

Car insurance

The standard profile

The Citroen C5 price page prices:

  • Car: C5 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

What 14 insurers ask

14 insurers price the C5 for that driver. The lowest premium is S$811.71 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,494.82. That is S$683.11 more, or 84% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Two insurers on our panel have no online price for this model.

At the lowest price, insurance costs less than the road tax. At the top of the range, it costs more.

The excess

Most plans set a S$600 excess. Three set S$500 and three S$800. Three set S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess.

Look at the excess beside each premium. You pay it on every claim.

What moves the price

The price page shows the lowest price with one detail changed:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,149.24, S$337.53 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,149.24, S$337.53 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,149.24, S$337.53 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$811.71, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$836.07, S$24.36 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$742.90, S$68.81 less

Without NCD, the lowest price is 42% higher. A 20% NCD and a younger driver reach the same figure.

The older driver pays the same. An 8-year-old C5 costs less to insure than the 3-year-old car on the page.

These are lowest prices. Other plans may move by more or less.

Comparing quotes

A few terms are worth reading with the price:

  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Plans allowing any workshop may differ in price.
  • Named drivers: an extra, younger driver can push the premium up.
  • NCD protection: an optional extra on some plans.
  • Excess: your share of each claim.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average is S$867.25. The C5 is 6% below that. Two of them, the Toyota Harrier and Voxy, are cheaper to insure.

Other Citroen models are on the Citroen car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.

Before you buy a used C5

Confirm these points first:

  • Version and engine: this sets the road tax and the COE rule.
  • COE expiry: the years of use left.
  • Road tax: when it is next due.
  • Your own quote: for this version and your details.

Costs that depend on you

These have no single figure:

  • Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus elsewhere.
  • Fuel: your distance, the engine and the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and hours.
  • Parts and servicing: for an older car, ask how parts are sourced and who services it. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due.
  • Depreciation: for a used car, mostly the COE years left.

Summary

For the Citroen C5 2.0 (1,997cc), dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$1,208.58 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$811.71 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,149.24
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$742.90

A fresh Category B COE closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
