The Citroen C4 has been sold with many engines over the years. Our quote form lists eight versions, from 1.2 litres to 2 litres. If you are looking at a used C4, the version matters, because engine size drives road tax. This page sets out the costs for the version most insurers quote.
All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote.
Eight versions on the form
The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. So this page gives no list price, power or body type.
Our quote form lists:
- C4 1.2: 1,199cc
- C4 1.4i: 1,360cc
- C4 1.6: 1,560cc
- C4 1.6 SX PACK VTI (A): 1,587cc
- C4 1.6 SX VTI (A): 1,587cc
- C4 1.6 THP LOED EDITION (A): 1,587cc
- C4 5S: 1,587cc
- C4 2.0 HDi: 1,995cc
The figures below are for the C4 1.2, the version most of our insurers quote. The others pay more road tax, and their premiums may differ. Check the exact version on any car you look at.
Road tax for the 1.2
For the 1,199cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$507.72 a year. That was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.
Older cars pay a surcharge:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
For the larger engines, look them up on the road tax page.
The COE
With a 1,199cc engine, the C4 1.2 needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest.
On a used C4, the COE years left are what count. They set how long you can keep the car.
Insurance
The standard driver
The Citroen C4 price page prices:
- Car: C4 1.2, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
What 13 insurers ask
13 insurers price the C4 for that driver. The lowest premium is S$604.07 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,264.05. That is S$659.98 more, or 109% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Three insurers on our panel have no online price for this model.
The excess
Most plans set a S$600 excess. Two set S$500 and three S$800. Three set S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess.
The higher figures are several times the usual one. Check the excess before you settle on a plan.
How the price changes
The price page shows the lowest price when one detail differs:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,031.46, S$427.39 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,017.37, S$413.30 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,031.46, S$427.39 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$604.07, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$622.34, S$18.27 more
- A car 8 years old: S$552.91, S$51.16 less
Losing the NCD adds 71% at the lowest price. A 20% NCD is only a little cheaper than none. A younger driver lands at the no-NCD figure.
The older driver pays the same as the 40-year-old, and an 8-year-old C4 is a little cheaper to insure.
These are lowest prices. Other plans may change differently.
Terms to look at
When you compare plans, also check:
- Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Some plans allow any workshop, at another price.
- Named drivers: an extra, younger driver can raise the premium.
- NCD protection: an optional extra on some plans.
- Excess: your share of each claim.

- Mercedes-Benz A-Class: S$787.96

Other Citroen models are on the Citroen car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.
Checks for a used C4
Before you agree a price, confirm:
- Version and engine: so you know which road tax applies.
- COE expiry: how many years of use are left.
- Road tax: when it is due, and at what surcharge.
- Your own quote: for this exact version and your details.
Costs that depend on you
These have no single figure:
- Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus elsewhere.
- Fuel: your distance, the version's engine and the pump price.
- ERP: your routes and hours.
- Parts and servicing: ask how parts are sourced and who services the car. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due.
- Depreciation: for a used car, mostly the COE years left.
