Citroen C4 Saloon 1.6 in Singapore, running costs and insurance

The Citroen C4 Saloon 1.6i 16v in Singapore: road tax, the COE rule and dated car insurance prices for one stated driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Citroen C4 Saloon is a 1.6-litre model that is no longer on the new-car list. If one is on your shortlist, this page sets out the yearly costs we can put a figure on. Insurance shows the widest spread, so it gets the most space.

All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide, not a quote.

The car priced

The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. There is no list price, power or body type on this page.

Our quote form prices the Citroen C4 Saloon 1.6i 16v, with a 1,587cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote.

Car insurance

The details

The Citroen C4 Saloon price page prices:

  • Car: C4 Saloon 1.6i 16v, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

A wide spread

13 insurers price the C4 Saloon for that driver. The lowest premium is S$700.28 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,722.36. That is S$1,022.08 more, or 146% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Three insurers on our panel have no online price for this model.

The top figure is about two and a half times the lowest. For an older car, few cost choices make this much difference each year.

The excess

Most plans set a S$600 excess. Three set S$500 and three S$800. One plan sets S$2,500, and one has no excess.

The excess is what you pay on each claim. Weigh it beside the premium.

How the premium shifts

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail differs:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,017.12, S$316.84 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,017.12, S$316.84 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,017.12, S$316.84 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$700.28, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$721.59, S$21.31 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$642.42, S$57.86 less

Without NCD, the lowest price is 45% higher. A 20% NCD or a younger driver lands on the same figure.

The older driver pays the same as the 40-year-old. An 8-year-old C4 Saloon is a little cheaper to insure. Cars on sale today are likely to be older still.

These are lowest prices. Other plans may move differently.

A claim can also cut your NCD, and the higher premium then lasts until the discount is rebuilt. Some plans offer NCD protection for an extra charge.

The COE

With a 1,587cc engine, the C4 Saloon 1.6i 16v needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest.

For a used car, the COE expiry date matters most. It tells you how long the car can stay on the road as it is.

Road tax

For the 1,587cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$735.28 a year. That was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.

Cars more than 10 years old pay more:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page has sums for other engines.

More than the premium

When you compare quotes, also check:

  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Some plans allow any workshop, at another price.
  • Named drivers: an extra, younger driver can raise the premium.
  • NCD protection: an extra some plans offer.
  • Excess: your share of each claim.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average is S$724.93. The C4 Saloon is 3% below that. Three of them, the Corolla Altis, Sienta and Freed, are cheaper to insure.

Other Citroen models are on the Citroen car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.

Checks before you buy

For a used C4 Saloon, confirm:

  • COE expiry: how many years of use are left.
  • Road tax: when it falls due, and whether a surcharge applies.
  • Your own quote: priced for this car and your details.

Costs that depend on you

These have no single figure:

  • Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus elsewhere.
  • Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and hours.
  • Parts and servicing: for an older car, ask how parts are sourced and who services it. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due.
  • Depreciation: for a used car, mostly the COE years left.

Yearly figures

For the Citroen C4 Saloon 1.6i 16v (1,587cc), dated as shown:

  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,017.12
