Citroen DS3 in Singapore, the yearly cost of road tax and insurance

The Citroen DS3 1.4 in Singapore: road tax, the COE rule and dated car insurance prices for one stated driver, October 2026.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Citroen DS3 is no longer on the new-car list, and our quote form lists three versions. If you own one or are weighing up a used one, this page puts figures on the yearly costs. It also points out where the DS3's insurance pattern differs from most cars.

All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide, not a quote.

Three versions on the form

The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now, so there is no list price, power or body type here.

Our quote form lists:

  • DS3 1.4: 1,397cc
  • DS3 1.6: 1,560cc
  • DS3 1.6 VTI (A): 1,598cc

The figures below are for the DS3 1.4, the version most of our insurers quote. The 1.6 versions pay more road tax, and their premiums may differ.

Road tax

For the 1,397cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$623.84 a year. That was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.

After 10 years, older cars pay more:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

For the 1.6 versions, see the road tax page.

The COE

With a 1,397cc engine, the DS3 1.4 needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest.

On a used DS3, the COE expiry date sets how many years of use you are buying.

Car insurance

The standard profile

The Citroen DS3 price page prices:

  • Car: DS3 1.4, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

What 12 insurers ask

12 insurers price the DS3 for that driver. The lowest premium is S$835.83 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,370.24. That is S$534.41 more, or 64% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Four insurers on our panel have no online price for this model.

The excess

Most plans set a S$600 excess. One sets S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three set S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess.

The higher excesses are a large sum against an older car's repair bills. Read them as closely as the premiums.

How the price changes

The price page shows the lowest price with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,068.13, S$232.30 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,068.13, S$232.30 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,068.13, S$232.30 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$993.65, S$157.82 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$796.79, S$39.04 less
  • A car 8 years old: S$827.64, S$8.19 less

Losing the NCD adds 28% at the lowest price. That is a smaller jump than on many cars. A 20% NCD and a younger driver land at the same figure.

The older driver pays more than the 40-year-old. And on this car, both a new car and an 8-year-old car are a little cheaper to insure than the 3-year-old one. That is the reverse of the usual pattern for new cars.

These are lowest prices. Other plans may move by other amounts.

What else to compare

Look past the premium at:

  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Some plans allow any workshop, at a different price.
  • Named drivers: an extra, younger driver can push the price up.
  • NCD protection: an optional extra on some plans.
  • Excess: your share of each claim.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average is S$735.99. The DS3 costs 14% more than that, and 5 of the six are cheaper to insure. Only the Mazda 3 costs more.

So, at the lowest price, the DS3 is towards the dearer end for its engine size. Other Citroen models are on the Citroen car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.

Checks before you buy

For a used DS3, confirm:

  • Version and engine: this sets the road tax.
  • COE expiry: how many years of use remain.
  • Road tax: when it is due, and whether a surcharge applies.
  • Your own quote: for this exact car and your details.

Costs that depend on you

These have no single figure:

  • Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus elsewhere.
  • Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and hours.
  • Parts and servicing: for an older car, ask how parts are sourced and who services it. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due.
  • Depreciation: for a used car, mostly the COE years left.

The yearly figures

For the Citroen DS3 1.4 (1,397cc), dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$623.84 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$835.83 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,068.13
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$827.64

A fresh COE in the October 2026 1st round was S$130,001 (Category A) or S$130,100 (Category B).
