The Toyota Yaris Verso 1.5 in Singapore: road tax of S$682.50, the COE rule for its engine, and insurance prices from 12 insurers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

For anyone holding on to a Toyota Yaris Verso, or thinking of buying one, the yearly costs are fairly easy to pin down. Road tax is set by the engine. Insurance varies a lot by insurer, but the excesses on this car sit in a narrow band. This guide goes through each item.

The insurance prices are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. They are not a quote for you.

The version priced

The new-car list has no entry for the Yaris Verso on sale now. So there is no list price, power or body type to give. The quote form prices the Yaris Verso 1.5, with a 1,497cc engine. All figures below are for it.

COE: the rule for this engine

The price page states that the Yaris Verso 1.5, with its 1,497cc engine, needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is more, it needs a Category B COE.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. Each round moves those figures. The COE page has the latest.

A car already on the road carries its COE until a fixed date. Find out when that is before you agree a price.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives S$682.50 a year for a 1,497cc engine, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge applies to cars more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

If the car is near one of these steps, the next road tax bill may be higher than the last. See the road tax page for other engine sizes.

Insurance for the page's driver

The Toyota Yaris Verso price page prices this driver and car:

  • Car: Yaris Verso 1.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that driver, 12 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$604.07. The insurer whose lowest plan sits highest asks at least S$1,359.89. That is S$755.82 more, or 125% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Four insurers on our panel have no online price for the Yaris Verso yet. If one of them already insures you, a direct quote lets you include it.

Excess

The excess is the amount you pay on each claim. This car's plans keep it in a narrow band. Twelve plans carry S$600. Two sit at S$500, two at S$750 and three at S$800. One plan has none. No plan on this page asks more than S$800. So on this car, the premium is where most of the difference lies.

How the premium changes

The price page changes one detail and shows the new lowest price:

  • No NCD (0%): S$922.71, S$318.64 more
  • 20% NCD: S$922.71, S$318.64 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$922.71, S$318.64 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$604.07, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$622.34, S$18.27 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$552.91, S$51.16 less

Three drivers share one floor: no NCD, a 20% NCD, and a driver aged 27 with 30%. Each starts 53% above the standard driver. The driver aged 65 pays the same as the standard driver.

The car's age has a small effect. An 8-year-old Yaris Verso starts S$51.16 lower than a 3-year-old one. A new one would start S$18.27 higher.

These are lowest prices only. Plans further up may react differently, and one fewer insurer quotes some of these cases.

Pros and cons on cost

  • For: the lowest price is below all six similar cars on the price page.
  • For: excesses are low across the board, with none above S$800.
  • Against: the lowest price rises by S$318.64 for a driver without a full NCD.
  • Against: four insurers have no online price, so the field is smaller.

Against similar cars

The price page lists six cars for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$773.50. The Yaris Verso sits 22% below it. None of the six is cheaper to insure. Other Toyotas are on the Toyota car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking elsewhere.
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and the times of day you drive them.
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery as the car ages. Ask for the service record.
  • Depreciation: what you pay set against what the car fetches later in its COE life.
