The cost of owning a Toyota Axio in Singapore

Toyota Axio 1.5 X costs in Singapore: road tax, the COE category rule and dated insurance prices from 10 insurers for one driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Toyota Axio is a compact sedan that shows up often on Singapore's used-car market. If one is on your shortlist, this page shows what it costs to keep each year and what changes those costs.

The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own details will set your actual price.

The version priced here

The Axio has no entry on the new-car list we hold, so there is no list price in this review. Our quote form prices the Axio 1.5 X, with a 1,496cc engine. That is the version most of our insurers quote.

The COE rule for the Axio

At 1,496cc, the Axio 1.5 X is judged on power. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. Above that, it needs Category B.

Category A closed at S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round. Category B closed at S$130,100. Both change each round; follow them on the COE page.

On a used Axio, the COE is part of what you pay for. Check the years left before you agree a price. How many years it has left decides how long the car can stay on the road.

Road tax

LTA's formula sets road tax for a 1,496cc engine at S$681.90 a year. That is before any age surcharge, and was checked on 2026-10-19.

Older cars pay a surcharge once they pass 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page covers other engine sizes.

Insuring the Axio

The Toyota Axio price page prices one standard case:

  • Car: Axio 1.5 X, registered 3 years ago, private use
  • Cover: comprehensive, authorised workshop, no options
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office-based, 10 to 19 years' driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims

10 insurers price this case. That is fewer than for many cars. Six insurers on our panel have no online price for the Axio yet. If you want more quotes than the page shows, those insurers may still quote you directly. The lowest premium is S$604.07 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,313.03. That is S$708.96 more, or 117% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Even with fewer insurers quoting, the spread is wide. The dearest of the insurers' cheapest plans costs more than twice the lowest.

The excess on each plan

The excess is the part of a claim you pay. Most Axio plans carry S$600. Others carry S$500, S$750 or S$800. One plan has no excess, and one carries S$2,500.

Read the excess with the premium. A cheap plan with a big excess may not save you money if you claim.

Dates and estimates

Each price on the page carries an "as at" date. That is the day the insurer's published price table was read. A price dated today comes from the insurer's live rates. Some figures are marked as estimates; check those on the insurer's own quote before you rely on them.

The NCD in the example is worth understanding too. It is a discount you build up with claim-free years, and a claim usually cuts it back. That is why the no-NCD prices further down are so much higher.

How the Axio's price reacts

The page changes one detail at a time and records the lowest price:

  • NCD at 0%: S$932.05, S$327.98 more
  • NCD at 20%: S$932.05, S$327.98 more
  • Driver aged 27 with 3 years' driving and 30% NCD: S$932.05, S$327.98 more
  • Driver aged 65 with 20 or more years' driving: S$604.07, no change
  • A new car, registered this year: S$622.34, S$18.27 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$552.91, S$51.16 less

The NCD makes the biggest difference. Without it, the lowest price rises 54%. Car age moves the price only a little, and an older Axio is slightly cheaper to insure.

Only lowest prices are shown. Other plans may change by different amounts.

Similar cars for comparison

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

The average of those is S$773.50. The Axio comes in 22% below it, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. You can compare other Toyotas on the Toyota car insurance page.

What you will need to estimate

These costs depend on the owner, so no figures appear here.

  • Parking: season parking where you live, plus parking at work and when you go out.
  • Petrol: set by your mileage and pump prices.
  • ERP: set by the gantries on your routes and the time of day.
  • Upkeep: servicing to the maker's schedule, and tyres, brakes and a battery as they wear. Ask for the service record.
  • Depreciation: tied to your purchase price, the COE time left and the car's value at the end.

The yearly numbers

For the Toyota Axio 1.5 X:

  • Road tax: S$681.90 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$604.07 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$932.05
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$552.91

And for reference, the October 2026 1st round COE: S$130,001 in Category A or S$130,100 in Category B.
