Toyota bB in Singapore and what it costs each year

Owning a Toyota bB in Singapore: road tax for the 1.3, its COE category rule and dated car insurance prices for one standard driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Toyota bB is a small Toyota that you will now find only as a used car in Singapore. If you are thinking about one, this page sets out the costs that come back every year, and the COE that decides how long it stays on the road.

All insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. What you pay will depend on your own answers.

The bB on our quote form

The bB is not on the new-car list we hold, so there is no list price to give. Our quote form has two versions:

  • bB 1.3: 1,298cc
  • bB 1.5: 1,495cc

The figures below are for the bB 1.3, which most of our insurers quote. The 1.5 has a larger engine, so its road tax is higher.

Its COE

For the bB 1.3, with a 1,298cc engine, the category depends on power. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is greater, it needs Category B.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. The figures change every round, and the COE page has the latest.

With a used bB, the COE is already on the car. The years left on it set how long you can keep the car before you renew or deregister. Check this before you agree a price.

Road tax on a 1,298cc engine

LTA's formula gives the bB 1.3 a road tax of S$565.78 a year, before any age surcharge. This was checked on 2026-10-19.

Once a car is more than 10 years old, a surcharge is added:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Many bB cars on the road are already older, so the registration date matters. The road tax page has other engine sizes.

Insurance for the example driver

The Toyota bB price page prices one case:

  • Car: bB 1.3, registered 3 years ago, private use
  • Cover: comprehensive, repairs at an authorised workshop, nothing added
  • Driver: aged 40, married, works in an office, 10 to 19 years' driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims

On these details, 13 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$586.41 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,110.75. That is S$524.34 more, or 89% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Three insurers on our panel have no online price for the bB yet. Even so, the spread among the rest is large, close to double from bottom to top.

The excess

The excess is the amount you pay on each claim yourself. On the bB page, most plans have S$600. Others have S$500, S$750 or S$800. A few sit at S$2,500 or S$3,000.

A lower premium with a higher excess may cost you more if you claim. Compare the two figures together.

Dates and estimates

Every price has an "as at" date: the day the insurer's price table was read. Some prices are marked as estimates. Check those on the insurer's own quote.

What changes the price

The page shows the lowest price when one thing about the driver or car is different:

  • No NCD (0%): S$963.58, S$377.17 more
  • 20% NCD: S$963.58, S$377.17 more
  • Driver aged 27 with 3 years' driving and 30% NCD: S$963.58, S$377.17 more
  • Driver aged 65 with 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, the same
  • Car registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less

The biggest jump comes from losing the NCD: the lowest price is 64% higher. The NCD is built up over claim-free years, and a claim usually reduces it. A newer car costs a little more to insure, and an older one a little less.

These are lowest prices. Plans higher up the table may move differently.

The bB and similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page sets out six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$694.41. The bB comes in 16% below that. None of the six is cheaper to insure, though the two Nissans come close. Other Toyota models are on the Toyota car insurance page.

Costs set by how you use the car

These costs differ too much between owners for one figure to help.

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and elsewhere.
  • Petrol: depends on how much you drive and what the pump charges.
  • ERP: depends on where and when you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: routine servicing, and in time tyres, brakes and a battery. Ask for the service history on any used car.
  • Depreciation: comes down to what you pay, the COE years left, and the value at the end.

Yearly costs we can put a figure on

For the Toyota bB 1.3:

  • Road tax: S$565.78 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$586.41 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$963.58
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$545.00

For reference, the COE in the October 2026 1st round was S$130,001 in Category A and S$130,100 in Category B.
