Toyota Yaris in Singapore, insurance, road tax and the COE

Costs for the Toyota Yaris in Singapore: road tax, the COE rule and dated car insurance examples for the Yaris 1.0 on our quote form.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Toyota Yaris is a small car with small engines, which keeps some of its fixed costs low. This guide works through what you can put a figure on: the COE, road tax and car insurance. It then covers the costs that depend on how you use the car.

The insurance figures are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your own quote depends on your details.

The versions on our quote form

The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type.

The quote form lists three versions of the Yaris:

  • Yaris 1.0: 998cc
  • Yaris 1.3: 1,329cc
  • Yaris 1.5 (A) E: 1,497cc

The insurance, road tax and COE figures below are for the Yaris 1.0, the version most insurers quote. The 1.3 and the 1.5 have larger engines, so their road tax and premiums can differ. Quote the exact car you are buying, and check the version on its log card if it is used.

COE for the Yaris 1.0

The price page states the rule for the Yaris 1.0, with a 998cc engine. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. The COE page has the latest results.

Many Yaris cars you see for sale will be used ones. On a used car, check how many years are left on its COE. That sets how long you can keep it on the road before you must renew the COE or deregister the car. It also shapes what the car is worth to you.

Road tax

For a 998cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$390.60 a year, before any age surcharge.

Cars more than 10 years old pay more:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

For the 1.3 or the 1.5, use the road tax page.

Insurance for the standard driver

The Toyota Yaris price page prices this case:

  • Car: Yaris 1.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that driver, 13 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$545.00. The insurer whose lowest plan is highest asks at least S$1,359.89, which is S$814.89 more, or 150% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Three insurers on our panel have no online price for the Yaris. Two have none yet, and one does not list the model on its online quote.

Excess

The excess is what you pay on a claim before the insurer pays. Twelve plans here carry S$600. A couple sit at S$500, three at S$800, three at S$2,500 and one at S$3,000. One plan has no excess. The spread is wide, so compare the excess with each premium.

What moves the price

The price page shows the lowest price with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$935.35, S$390.35 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$924.97, S$379.97 more
  • 20% NCD: S$826.61, S$281.61 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$545.00, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$545.00, the same
  • A car 8 years old: S$545.00, the same

The NCD does the work. With none, the lowest price rises 72%. A young driver with 30% NCD pays almost the same. A 20% NCD trims that, but not by much.

Car age makes no difference at the lowest price. New, 3 years old or 8 years old, the Yaris 1.0 starts at S$545.00. An older driver pays that too.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans can move by other amounts.

Against similar small cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page shows:

Their average lowest price is S$660.63. The Yaris 1.0 sits 18% below it, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Chery QQ matches it. Other Toyotas, including more of the range, are on the Toyota car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus parking at work and on outings.
  • Fuel: your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and the hours you use them.
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years.
  • Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later, which depends on its COE years left.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
