The Toyota Yaris Cross is a small SUV with one engine size across the range. That makes the running costs simpler to set out than for most cars. This review starts with insurance, because that is where the figures vary most, then covers road tax, the COE and the list prices.
Every premium here is an example for a stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price depends on your details.
Here's what you'll pay to insure one
The Toyota Yaris Cross price page prices a standard case:
- Car: Yaris Cross 1.5XB (1,490cc), registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
14 insurers price it for that driver. The lowest premium is S$604.07 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,469.33. That is S$865.26 more, or 143% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Two insurers on the panel have no online price for the Yaris Cross yet. So you are choosing among 14, not the full panel.
Excesses on the plans
The excess is the sum you pay towards each claim. Most Yaris Cross plans carry S$600. A few run S$500, S$750 or S$800. Three plans ask S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one plan has no excess at all. The no-excess plan is the dearest on premium. Weigh the two together.
How the price moves for other drivers
The price page shows the lowest premium when one detail changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$986.30, which is S$382.23 more
- 20% NCD: S$986.30, which is S$382.23 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$986.30, which is S$382.23 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$604.07, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$622.34, which is S$18.27 more
- Car 8 years old: S$552.91, which is S$51.16 less
The NCD is the biggest single factor. With none, the lowest price is 63% higher. A younger, less experienced driver lands on the same lowest figure. An older driver pays the same as the standard case, though one fewer insurer prices that driver. These are lowest prices only, and other plans may shift by different amounts.
Pros and cons of its insurance costs
- For: none of the six similar cars on its price page is cheaper to insure.
- For: an 8-year-old car costs less to insure at the lowest price.
- For: an older driver with a long record pays no more.
- Against: two insurers do not price it online yet.
- Against: without an NCD, the lowest price rises by S$382.23.

- Mercedes-Benz C-Class: S$749.93

The COE
For the Yaris Cross 1.5XB, with its 1,490cc engine, the category depends on power. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.
The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax
For the 1,490cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$678.38 a year, before any age surcharge. Since every version on sale shares that engine, this figure covers the range on the list.
Once the car is over 10 years old, a surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page has the sums for other engine sizes.
What to check on a plan
- The excess, as it varies more than the premium does.
- The workshop terms: the standard case uses an authorised workshop.
- Whether you keep your NCD after a claim, and what protecting it costs.
- Who is named to drive, since a younger driver can raise the price.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus parking at work and in town.
- Petrol: depends on your mileage and the pump price. The hybrids also use an electric motor.
- ERP: set by where and when you drive.
- Servicing: follow Toyota's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due over time.
- Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later.
