Verdict first: the Toyota Voxy is a mid-priced MPV with a 1,797cc engine, so it needs a Category B COE and pays road tax at that size. On insurance it sits close to the average of its similar cars. And its lowest premium moves less than many cars' do when a driver has no NCD.
The reasons follow, each one a cost from the facts. Insurance prices are examples for stated drivers, read on 20 October 2026. They are not quotes.
What is on sale
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has three versions. All are MPVs made in Japan:
- Voxy Hybrid 1.8 SG 7-Seater: petrol-electric, 1,797cc, 138bhp
- Voxy Hybrid 1.8 SZ 7-Seater: petrol-electric, 1,797cc, 138bhp
- Voxy 2.0 X Wheelchair Welcab Slope: petrol, 1,986cc, 150bhp
The quote form lists the Voxy 1.8 (1,797cc), the 2.0 (1,986cc) and the Hybrid 1.8V (1,797cc). The insurance figures are for the Voxy 1.8, the version most insurers quote.
List prices
As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included that day:
- Hybrid 1.8 SG 7-Seater: S$216,100
- Hybrid 1.8 SZ 7-Seater: S$229,100
- 2.0 X Wheelchair Welcab Slope: S$238,000
These move with each COE round. Compare what each offer includes, not only the total.
COE and road tax
COE. With a 1,797cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Voxy 1.8 needs a Category B COE. It closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has later rounds.
Road tax. For the 1,797cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$973.98 a year, before any age surcharge. The 2.0 version's larger engine pays more; the road tax page works it out. After 10 years, a surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Who it suits on cost
A family's main driver
The Toyota Voxy price page prices a driver aged 40, married, in an office job, driving 10 to 19 years. The car is a 3-year-old Voxy 1.8, private use, comprehensive cover. The driver has a 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims, and uses an authorised workshop.
14 insurers price that case. The lowest premium is S$793.75 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,487.35. That is S$693.60 more, or 87% on top. Prices include 9% GST.
An older driver
A driver aged 65 with 20 or more years' driving starts at S$793.75, the same as the standard case. One fewer insurer prices that driver.
A buyer of an older car
An 8-year-old Voxy starts at S$726.77, which is S$66.98 less. A new one, registered this year, starts at S$817.19, which is S$23.44 more.
Who may pay more
A young driver
A driver aged 27, with 3 years' driving and a 30% NCD, starts at S$989.59. That is S$195.84 more.
A driver with no NCD
With no NCD, the lowest price is also S$989.59, 25% more than the standard case. A 20% NCD lands on the same figure. That rise is smaller than on many cars, but it is still the biggest change on the page.
Anyone who claims
Most plans carry a S$600 excess. Others sit at S$500 or S$800. A few reach S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one plan has no excess. If you expect to claim, look at the excess before the premium.
These are lowest prices only; other plans may move by other amounts.
Fewer insurers to choose from
Two insurers on the panel do not price the Voxy online. One of them does not list the model on its online quote at all.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Hyundai Kona: S$721.59
- Kia Cerato: S$660.69
- Hyundai Avante: S$622.34
Their average lowest price is S$783.18. The Voxy costs 1% more than that, and three of the six are cheaper to insure. Other Toyotas are on the Toyota car insurance page.
Questions to ask yourself
- Hybrid or petrol? The hybrids and the 2.0 have different engine sizes and list prices.
- Who will drive? A younger named driver can push the premium up.
- What is your NCD? It moves the price more than the car's age does.
- Where will you park? Check season parking at your HDB block or condo.
- How far will you drive? Petrol and ERP depend on your routes and mileage.
- How long will you keep it? Servicing, tyres and depreciation depend on you.
Costs with no single figure
Some costs depend on how you use the car, so no one figure fits:
- Parking: season parking where you live, plus parking at work, malls and schools.
- Petrol: your mileage times the pump price. The hybrids also use an electric motor.
- ERP: set by the roads you use and the times you drive.
- Servicing: follow Toyota's schedule, and ask what the warranty and any service package cover.
- Depreciation: what the car loses over its COE life, set by what you pay and what it later fetches.
