Toyota Vitz running costs in Singapore, with insurance for each driver

The Toyota Vitz 1.3 Jewela in Singapore: road tax, the COE rule and car insurance prices that differ by 160% between insurers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The headline on the Toyota Vitz is the spread in insurance prices. For the same driver and car, the highest of the insurers' lowest plans is 160% above the lowest premium. That makes comparing quotes the biggest saving on offer. This guide sets that out, along with the COE, road tax and the costs that depend on you.

All insurance figures are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your own price depends on your answers.

Three Vitz versions on the form

The new-car list has no entry for the Vitz on sale now, so there is no list price, power figure or body type here. The quote form lists three versions:

  • Vitz 1.0 F: 996cc
  • Vitz 1.3 Jewela: 1,329cc
  • Vitz 1.5U: 1,497cc

The insurance figures below are for the 1.3 Jewela, which most insurers quote. The other two have different engine sizes, so their road tax and premiums will differ.

How its COE is set

The price page states the rule for the Vitz 1.3 Jewela, with its 1,329cc engine. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if the power is more.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives S$583.96 a year for the 1,329cc engine, before any age surcharge.

From 10 years on, a surcharge applies:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

For the 1.0 F or the 1.5U, check the road tax page.

Insurance: the gap between insurers

The Toyota Vitz price page prices this driver and car:

  • Car: Vitz 1.3 Jewela, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that driver:

  • 13 insurers give a price
  • S$545.00 is the lowest premium
  • S$1,415.43 is the least the insurer with the highest lowest plan asks
  • S$870.43 is the gap between the two, or 160% on top

All prices include 9% GST. Three insurers on our panel have no online price for the Vitz. Two have none yet, and one does not list the model on its online quote.

The gap alone is larger than the lowest premium itself. So two quotes for the same car and the same driver can be very far apart.

Excess

The excess is the part of a claim you pay yourself. Twelve plans here carry S$600 and three carry S$500. Three are at S$800, three at S$2,500 and one at S$3,000. No plan on the page is free of an excess.

What changes the price

The price page shows the lowest price with one change and the rest held:

  • No NCD (0%): S$935.35, S$390.35 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$924.97, S$379.97 more
  • 20% NCD: S$826.61, S$281.61 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$545.00, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$545.00, the same
  • A car 8 years old: S$545.00, the same

The driver's NCD is the only thing that moves the floor here. With none, the lowest price rises 72%. A young driver aged 27 pays nearly as much. A 20% NCD sits in between.

The car's age leaves the lowest price unchanged, from new to 8 years old. An older driver also pays the same as the standard driver.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans may change by other amounts, and fewer insurers quote some of these cases.

The Vitz against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists these lowest prices:

Their average lowest price is S$790.62. The Vitz is 31% below it. None of the six is cheaper to insure. More Toyota models are on the Toyota car insurance page.

What to check before you pick a plan

  • The excess: for you and for any younger named driver.
  • The workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop.
  • NCD protection: whether it is offered and what it adds to the premium.
  • What is excluded: read the policy wording, not only the summary.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: your usual routes and times.
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years.
  • Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later, which turns on its remaining COE.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Vitz 1.3 Jewela (1,329cc):

  • Road tax: S$583.96 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$545.00 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$935.35
  • Insurance, a new or 8-year-old car: from S$545.00

For reference, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
